Nail in Tire
#2
Make sure discount tire has the experience to handle tire/wheels that have tire pressure sensors. Ask them to be care not to scratch the painted rims. If you still had the old metal valve caps, make sure that if they were bonded to the valve stems by corrosion that Direct Tire didn't put a plier to turn them loose.

I had 3 out of 4 rims messed up on a car awhile back at a sizeable Goodyear dealer, so it does happen.

Typically, the tire will be removed and a plug inserted in the nail hole. If you have the time and inclination, this is easy to do. Plug kits are available at auto parts stores, and it is permanent fix. I have done probably a dozen plugs over the years, and have never had a problem. Of course, you need an air supply to pump up the tire.

I had one a couple of months ago. Of course it was while I was out of town on a business trip, but sure was glad to have the TPMS tell there was a problem. And, MAN is that spare yellow!
The good news was I was only a half-mile from an outlet of our biggest regional tire chain and they fixed it for no charge. They often do stuff like that to try and lure you in for your next set of tires. If only they carried something that would fit the RL.

A tire repair shop worth it's salt will NOT insert a plug. When putting a plug, you may actually affect the steel belts. THe way to go is to break down the tire and insert a patch from the INSIDE.

Well, just got back from Discount Tire to have the nail puncture repaired. As luck would have it they scratched a perfect wheel. Told them about before I left. They tried to polish it out but it was too deep. They offered a new wheel and will call me when it is in. Nothing is easy.
