How Critical is Equal Tread Depth?
I am looking at a set of barely used (less than one season) winter tires for my 06 RL. I know that with AWD supposedly all four tires have to be equal tread depth, how strict is this? If these tires are all within 1/32nd or at most 2/32nd equal tread depth of each other on all four, am I ok?
The tires wear differently as you use them anyway which is why you should rotate them. If they are all the same brand/model, you will be okay. Put the deepest tread on the front as they will wear faster with the RL's FWD bias.
Subaru, the most finicky AWD systems out there in terms of matching tires and tread depths, allows for up to 4/32nds of an inch difference from the worst tire on the car to the best tire on the car to still be within their strict tolerances. You'll be just fine. What tires are they BTW?

you'll be fine. i asked my former SA about this issue. the Acura SHAWD system has a higher tolerance for tread differences. so 1 or 2/32" is really nothing that will cause any issues with AWD system.

As long as you are within 3/32nds tread depth differential you will be fine.
Tires are "Arctic Claw". It's a discount winter tire line I think made by Cooper Tires. I have friends that have used them very successfully on various different cars over the years - good snow traction, excellent ice traction, and still fairly quiet on bare pavement. We tend to get mainly icy/greasy roads in the winter more than feet of powder to plow through.
