Help with tires for A-Spec wheels

Hi...

I am depaxing my RL that came with PAX and I got a set of 18" A-Spec wheels. HOWEVER, I just got off the phone with Costco trying to get a set of Michelin Primacy or Pilot Sport A/S Plus in 245/45-18 and they said they can't put those on my wheels because the Load Index of those tires are 96 while the stock 17s with 245/50-17 are 98 or 99 and they can't replace originals with lower load index tires.

Have you guys ever heard of this??? In fact, I asked and they couldn't find ANY Michelin 245/45-18s that would satisfy the load index requirement of the original 17s. What up with that???

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Acura dealerships sell the Aspec 18s for our RLs with Michelin 245/45/18s on them so Costco is being silly.

LoL Good ol Costco... its best to know what you want and tell them than it is to ask for their expert opinion.

I tried to tell them what I wanted right when I called, but they insisted on knowing the model and make of the car even after I told them I have bigger accessory 18" wheels. They said it's not as simple as I think and they can't just slap whatever tires I wanted on the car for liability reasons.

I even mentioned these were genuine Acura A-spec wheels and not aftermarket. (I knew mentioning PAX would cause even bigger problems, so I told them I have a standard RL). In any case, they said they couldn't find any Michelin tires in 245/45-18 that would satisfy the load index requirement that the original 17" provided.

When I asked WTF if Acura sells them this way, why can't I get the same tires. Then they wanted to know what the original tires were that came with the A-spec wheels. Of course, I didn't know so I couldn't answer that question. Told them I would call them back after I looked.

What do you guys think? My guess is the a-spec tires have the lower load index and it's not an issue with Acura. Costco is just being anal and stupid. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can say to convince them?

I have the Acura A spec wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. 245/45ZR1896Y.

When you buy the A spec wheels, you are suppose to get an additional page which they glue inside your owner's manuel, which states:

"RL -Tires Size, Be sure to use only the following tire size ...245ZR1896V"

I use to buy tires at Costco, but no longer as they enforce stupid rules, like the one you are seeing.

Do you have a copy of this page that comes with the A-spec wheels? I never got one. If you do, can you scan a copy for me? Maybe if I show this to Costco, they will let me get those tires!

Thank you very much to Plastics for faxing me a copy of the Acura doc that states the proper size of tire for the 18" accessory wheels for the RL. Since it is an Acura doc and it says 245/45-18 96 load rating, Costco shouldn't have a problem I HOPE!
