Do we need spring stoppers?

I recently purchased an 05 rl that came with 20s on it. I noticed that the rear of the car was sitting too high and upon further inspection I noticed it had spring stoppers on the back. Do we even need those? I was under the impression that alot of you ran 20s without raising the car. I have the stock susp and not the aspec.

If the tires are sized correctly, it will not matter if you are running 22"s or 12"s. The diameter of the tire will be the same. The width of the tire can play a role, but I can't imagine why someone would put stoppers on there. It must really look like a 4x4 with the lift and 20"s. Please post pics!

The spring stopper is pretty much 2 plates, 2 bolts, and 4 nuts. You collapse the plates to fit them in between a spring and then use the bolts to expand the plates. You screw the bolts until you get the plates in the desired position. It stops your spring from condensing when you hit a bump. Its the ghetto way to raise a car to fit bigger rims. Im just gonna take em off and see if I rub.

Also I forgot post in the new owner section so ill be doing that shortly.

RL Donk = Fail

I hate to say if the car was raised like this the wheels are probably a fail too...

None the less take em out and hope that there was no damage to the axles.

haha lol wow what kind of wheels are these??? and how wide are they? main question: what size tires are on these wheels, if it does rub, maybe all you need to do is get different tires lol

This is not true. Wheel width and/or offset can definitely cause rubbing. I would imagine the wheels probably have a low offset and the previous owner was having issues with rubbing under compression.

The tire can be sized correctly and they can still rub, regardless of the wheel size. A 245/35R20 is basically the exact same width and overall diameter as the stock 245/50R17. If the 20" wheels are 8" wide and have a +55 offset everything will be exactly like the stock setup. Clearances from the wheel/tire to the wheel wells, fenders and suspension components will not change at all. If the 20" wheels are 9" wide and have a +35 offset on the other hand, they will push nearly an inch further out. This will cause rubbing issues, especially in the rear when going over bumps and dips.

So, your original statement is not true. There is more to wheel/tire fitment than just the overall dimensions of the tires.

All I said is that the diameter will be the same if the tires are sized correctly. Width and offset will play a role in rubbing.

I left offset out, but what I said is true if you read both sentences. I understand you work with tires and wheels everyday and know a lot more about it than I do, but you have to read the whole statement.

OP, are you gonna post some pictures or what? Inquiring minds want to know. I remember a post not long ago in the 3G TL section of a TL on 24's with a similar setup.

I got around to removing the spring spacers and Im gonna show some humility here.

This is before:

This was immediately after. It was still high and I was pissed:

This was after it settled:

It looks better now, but I'm not a fan of the wheels.

Yeah, it had a stereo. I had to remove all the wires for it. It had blue neon lights underneath too. Apparently it belonged to a "rapper" or at least a wanna be. I found his book of lyrics along with his record label info in there. His best mod was the HID fogs and one of those doesnt even work.

This doesn't look bad:

I'm not a huge fan of the wheels, but they aren't the worst either. Much better with the stoppers out.

You an artist, or are you just into art?

No, Im not an artist on any level. Im guessing you're referring to my photos of the paintings/sculptures. Thats something I had to do for an art class a while back.
