Tell him to look at the back of the new pads, and see what the stamp says. Somewhere on this site, someone has a picture of the pads with the ADVICS stamp on the back of them

That being said, the OEM pads are very pricey, much more so than the usual Acura one or two piston pads.

But the front assembly is made by Advics, and are really nice units. The caliper assembly is shown in this thread.

Why don't you just ask the dealer to show you where Brembo's brand name is stamped on the pads? Regardless, whether the pads are made by Brembo, Acura, Nissan, Advics, etc...if you don't like the price they're giving you why not just take it elsewhere?

The calipers are stamped with Advics, which is the company that produced the calipers. The pads are Acura's. If the dealer is super-sure there are Brembo calipers on there, tell him you'll pay for him to check...on the condition they're Brembo -- and he agrees it's their nickel when they discover it's Advics.

Then, search Advics on this forum and find the photo of the RL's caliper that's on here...

i think what hte OP is talking about is this :

Acura advertised a brake service special that was around $200'ish.... but it has "fine print" that says "excludes brembos"...

I think this means "brembo style" brakes... not actual "brembo" BRAND....

the ad doesn't specifically say they exclude brembo BRAND brakes... does Acura even have any cars that came with true "brembo" brakes? meaning your interpretation may be inconsistent with what Acura actually sold... for you to imply it has to be strictly interpreted as brembo brand brakes would likely make no sense given the brakes Acura has sold on their cars... not sure if Acura ever sold any brake ever manufactured by Brembo on their cars....

if you look at what Acura charges for the pads for an RL - they are over $200. they don't charge thatm uch for other pads.. AFAIK...which is why they excluded these on that deall...

your brakes may not be actual "brembos"..but as far as that advertisement goes - you have brembo "style" front brakes, which Acura specifically intended to excluded from that deal.

that's my take...

That makes sense. 6 spd 3G TL came with Brembos.

The RL Advics calipers are similar to Brembos in that they are very nice 4 piston aluminum alloy pieces.

Here is the Brembo description from the 3G TSX

Brembo rotors and aluminum-alloy front brake calipers are standard on the 6-speed manual transmission TL. The calipers have four pistons each, and more aggressive pad material, to offer improved brake feel and reduced fade in hard repeated brake applications. They are also 30 percent lighter than the standard calipers, saving 4.3 pounds per wheel, which in turn improves suspension response for better ride and handling. The calipers feature an attractive black painted finish with the Acura name.

so can anyone get the dealer to honor that fairly "cheap" brake job on a 3G RL?

i was jus there and they wanted a lot of $$ for a brake job and implied it was because the pads are "more expensive" on teh RL....

if you can say "the RL has advics" not "brembos" and get a discount - go for it.

let me know if you are successful!

MSRP on the pads is 206.15. The pad price really isn't bad at all for a dealership job.
