Changing tires on my 05, what are my options??

the tires are worn on my 05 RL. i need to replace them so i told my mechanic buddy to order them to put them on saturday along with oil change, inspection and brakes. he calls me back and said he called 2 places to order these michelins and they are like $320 a pop. he said the guy at the tire place told him they fit only the RL. are there any cheaper options since my RL is leased for another year?? i cant really search the web cause where i am, the connection is slowwwwwww. thanks

Yeah many different options that are almost all better than the OEMs.

Do you want all seasons?

Go to this address for the Tire Rack, with the search narrowed for you. Even if takes 5 minutes, you will see your choices from a popular mail order place.

5 tires in 245/50-17 stock tire size (summer tires and all seasons)
1 winter tire.

Marc, I replaced my tires and got the best price at Costco.

I bought the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tires and found they are much better than the OEM Michelins.

BTW, how many miles did you get on your tires?

I'm sure you'll get 30% more miles on this new set also. I'm convinced the car manufacturers are having these tire manufacturers develop substandard tires to help reduce costs for them. I've never had a set of original tires that lasted anywhere near as long as they should. One year and there done. It's a conspiracy I tell ya, a conspiracy!

While I do not disagree with your point that OEM tires never last as long as they are advertised for, I have to say that I have been buying Ultra High Performance All Season (I know, an oxymoron!) tires for about years, and I am lucky if they last more than 25K miles. I do see reports in this forum of the OEM Michelin Pilot HX MXM4s lasting 50,000 miles or more.

I would like to hear how long various replacement tires are lasting for folks. Most all of the replacements seem to be of the UHP variety.

The OEM MXM4s should last about 15 miles- the distance to get your replacement tires from tirerack thrown on at a store.

It is sad how crappy those tires are and how they hold back a lot of the RL's true ability.
