Anyone tried Michelin Primacy MXM4 out yet?
Anyone tried Michelin Primacy MXM4 out yet?
got an 07 RL and been contemplating between The Serenity Tires and the Conti DWS...
Found the

Michelin Primacy MXM4
From tirerack.com by just looking for tires under 245 50 17 ...
But i couldn't find it under the RL vehicle.
Anybody has any input on these tires? Suppose to replace the pilots...
Thanks guys for your help

The Primacy is an "H" speed rated tire -- 130MPH. The OEM MXM4 is a "V" speed rated tire -- 149MPH. Tire rack lists, under specs specific to the RL only OEM speed rated tires, so the Primacy is not listed for the RL because of its lower speed rating. Moot point as far as I'd be concerned -- it's a rare situation that you could drive at a continuous speed over 130MPH in this country. Maybe on the Autobahn in Germany, but that's another story.
Thanks for the helpful replies and tips... You think tirerack will have a black friday sale? lol
I don't know if i should get the Primacy, but the price is very appealing to me.
But i'm looking for something with good dry and snow traction because i live in new york city.
So far i've been reading on reviews that the primacy has great stopping power because of the "new" sun flower oil technology used on the tires. But then again, people are complaining about the DWS being unstable.
Serenity to me is the only one that has good feedback, but according to the survey in tirerack, it sucks in the snow..
Aaahhh choices...
Anybody else have any other options? Or just deal purchase the primacy?
Also does the speed rating really matter that much?

speed rating for RL is fine at H, the governor is set at like 133mph anyway...so you won't be needing V.
I'm in New York and I went with Conti DWS's, another choice is Michelin Pilot Sport A/S.
I personally stay away from anything that says MXM or MXM4 as I've had horrible experience on the past 3 cars with them.

My knowledge of a V rated tire is not only is it a high speed tire, but the overall build quality is better, and better over all handling. Hence, the higher price. I agree, who needs a V when an H will do just as well. I am looking into getting some quotes from Les Schwab and Big O just to compare prices. (West coast dealers)

A V-rated tire also has a different build in regard to the stiffness of the sidewall. To many people this might not make a difference, but there is a real world consequence of not choosing the right tire.
Real World Example: On and Off ramps, and the use of SH-AWD or even Rear Wheel Drive for the matter of fact. If one has a lower speed rated tire then the side wall may feel sloppy or mushy. Also, an individual would not be able to maintain their line at a given higher speed as the lower speed rated tire may lose traction. This could be dangerous to not only the individual driving but the others around them as they are driving around the bends.
I would recommend that anyone replace tire with at least the manufacturer specs if not higher.

Yep. Jackzilla picked up on this first, noting the V rating difference...the manual states a V-rating is required...VietGuy03 articulates why. Of course, never mix tires of differing speed ratings, as this will cause inconsistent VSA and ABS behavior (also in the manual)
lol, I sell tires and I just want to inform forum members that Continental/General are in the process of changing all their article numbers. From what I was told they are waiting for the majority of the old articled numbered tires to be sold through inventory before revamping production.
So..... it may be a while before the DWS come back into production. I have heard anywhere from December-late February. However, that was from a customer service representative, so please take this with a grain of salt at this given time.

I've sold tires for 7 years, so I wouldn't say I am an expert, but I will pass on what I have noticed from customers.
Continental - don't generally have a high satisfaction is regards to tread life and value with customers. Customer's who generally buy Continental are ones that are purchasing OEM replacements. The DWS is a generally new tire to the market and is adapting a new dual tread design like many other manufacturers. Ex. Goodyear Eagle GT, BF Goodrich Long Touring (Old Truck Tire), Bridgestone Serenity, Michelin Primacy (Forgot model name.)
General - Reasonable tire for the price, and make a good build. Another alternative to some of the other name brands while still offering a good value. For the Acura RL I like the specs on the General Exclaim UHP, but I know they are not the greatest snow driven tire. :\ Sucks because I have snow where I live.
Bridgestone - The Turanza is an OEM spec tire which receives mixed reviews. Most people replace their tires with this just because they don't know or are scared to try different brands when they settled on the given performance of the OEM tire. I have found that most of the lower end tires do not yield high satisfaction among customers. If I were to recommend a tire it would have to be a higher model Turanza/Potenza. The Serenity tire has come on solid, but sometimes the price point deters customers. I think it is a solid alternative to the DWS, and would recommend this tire.
Goodyear - Pretty much the same thing, the high end tires yield better satisfaction then the lower end ones. VERY mixed reviews here, but I think it is because some people regard Goodyear tires as junk to begin with, or don't have experience with higher quality tires. The Assurance lines seem to have good reviews and the American Eagle GT seem to be a solid performance, minus the tread life.
Michelin - Long standing tire manufacturing history and loyal Older customer base. I have people who will ONLY buy Michelins. Their quality in regard to ride comfort and tire balancing is excellent. The only points I would argue against Michelin tires is the price point and tread life and lack luster handling of the select Energy tires. I hate that they are a solid 150.00+ in almost any size and OEM Energy tires only last 30,000-40,000 on average. I don't think it is fair to charge customers that high price when the tires don't generally last that long. I ALWAYS look for alternatives for customers when they are shopping for Energy line tires.
This is purely a subjective and opinionated observations of treads that I have noticed over the years. lol, sorry for the long post/rant.
ANYWAYS, aznne0 to answer your question... The Seneritys are a good tire. I think they overall will be better than the Continental DWS. If you live in a warmer climate look at the General Exclaim UHP's.
Unless you are given a set of Michelin Energy tires P245/50R17 tires, I wouldn't buy another set because of the so-so handling and price point given the available alternatives.

Thanks again for your help... Seems to me i'll be leaning towards the Serenity's.. I'll make my decision after the thanksgiving weekend.. "Hoping" there will be a black friday sale on tires.. lol

No problem aznne0! Shop around and make sure to check for mail-in rebates as they will be an additional purchasing benefit.
I am from Indiana and we get quite a bit of Lake effect snow. I am going to try the General Exclaims out for the winter depending on the tread on the RL tires that I am purchasing, hopefully.
There is another owner here in my city that has an RL and he has been running the General Exclaims through the winter and didn't have any problems.
I have had the Exclaims on some summer rims and really liked their ride/comfort, and performance in relation to the price point. lol, I know I sound biased but I want to give these tires a chance in winter and see how they do.

Aside from the BS Turanza Serenity's, others on this forum have said the Toyo Versado LX is another good GTAS type tire in 245/50-17...otherwise you are probably stuck with Michelin, which is expensive.
I think TireRack is a good place to read reviews and compare ratings by other people.
I've got 10k on my Conti DWSs and their dry handling is very good. Can't wait for the snow to drop, they should be the best all season tire when it comes to tearing through snow.
