All RLs with aftermarket wheels - let me see them!

Hi All,

I've been looking for some 18" aftermarket wheels for my 2006 RL and i am having really really hard time finding wheels that fit my budget, look good, weight less and have the right color/shape.

If you have aftermarket wheels on your RL, please post a picture and details on the wheels - price, weight, impressions. I am trying to gather as much information on the subject as possible and some visual examples are always helpful.

I am also trying to figure out the following things...

1. Would a wheels that wights 26lbs be a lot worse than a wheel that weights 24lbs?? I know 2 lbs does not seem like much, but in rotational mass it's a lot more, and on a car that is already 4000lbs, i don't want to kill more of the performance and the gas mileage.

2. I wonder if wheels that are half black (black lip or partially black spokes) will look fine on my Gold (Desert Mist) colored RL. I really want to preserve the classy look of the car.

3. From the 3 options below, which one would you pick for a Desert Mist car with tinted windows?

Elbrus #1 - 26lbs

Elbrus #2 - 26lbs

Enkei - 24lbs

Thank you for your feedback!

What is the exact weight on RL A-spec wheels?

I read somewhere that the A-spec wheels are 26lbs+. This is not impressive, given their cost and the fact that the stock 17" are only 25lbs.

I say no to the Enkeis. They look like some 15's youd find on a beat up civic hatch.

If you must I would go with 1 or 2 and in a 19 or 20" size. If you plan on keeping the car for a while and money isnt that much of a problem (something saving a couple more months will help) Get a larger wheel you wont regret it.

19's on this car will still ride almost stock smooth and 20" would be a little harder but would look very nice.

^ agreed

although be careful on selecting the wheel or else be the joke of your neighborhood
go with a-spec wheel for safe bet, although 18" sorry but still nice

A pic with my iForged wheels which were sold yesterday to a nice member here. My 20" iForged setup was 6 lbs lighter per wheel vs my present 18" Moda cast wheels. But oh well. They look decent enough to sell the car.

Current Moda something on there currently.

SIGH: I miss my real wheels already. A-Spec suspension which I HIGHLY recommend.

Thank you for the replies guys. I already purchased the 18" Elbrus 102 wheels with a set of new Continental ContiExtreme DWS tires.
I'll post some pictures in the next few days. They look just like "pickncrew"'s car but with different tires.
I really like the new wheels and the tires. The car looks a lot better, IMO.

My setup weights only 1.3lbs more per side compared to my stock 17" wheels and tires.

I'm sure he is referring to the Moda wheels which looked very small on his RL with a kit. Not too bad on mine though still not quality wheels. I have two potential buyers this weekend so we will see how much longer I need to suffer the indignity of having cast wheels.

Baller....Must be nice! Lol

how much those 20's weigh with tires?

I had to go with cast wheels but in 19" were only 5 lbs heavier rim n tire compared to stock setup. I think I was at 52 or 55 lbs per rim n tire.

The 20s above (iForged) with tires weighed 56 lbs total incl TPMS sensor. The 18 Modas I have now weigh a total of 62 lbs each.

I went for option 2 which is the Elbrus 104. Have had nothing but compliments on this wheel from many folks who know the RL.

Ralph can you post some pictures of your car with the 104s?

The only problem with these wheels is that they are not hubcentric, you need rings which can sometimes cause problems with vibration.

Looks very nice, UW RL. These wheels were my second choice, only because of the higher price. Since i was on a budget, i picked the Elbrus 102. Enkei's must show higher quality in the long run.

How do you like your RL in the snow? How does it handle the slippery roads and stormy weather?
Do you run it with snow tires or all season during the winter?

I am planing to take my RL up in the mountains for the first time this winter.

I love driving my RL in the snow. Whenever it snowed in the Seattle area I just couldn't stop thinking of getting out in my RL. The SH-AWD is my favorite.

I am running the Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position which is ultra high performance all season and to me, they are adequate. If I wanted ultimate traction in snow I would go with snow tires.. but for now, I am sticking to the Potenza.

that looks pretty nice! how much did you pay for those wheels? how do you think it rides with the 18s and H&Rs? i like the way it looks, not sure i will EVER convince my wife our RL needs wheels or springs..... but I have a third/fun car for twisties...so I can't complain too much....

like those wheels! i really like hte aspec wheels and VERY few aftermarket wheels look "right" on the RL... to me....but I like these! especially with the car lowered..it looks really tight!

Weight be damned, I really like those Modas... Anybody got a model number? I can't seem to find any 7 spokers like those on any Moda-carrying wheel sites.
