Where do you keep your phone?

In my S4 I had (have) a cupholder above the radio. Stupid location to put a soda but great location for a phone. Extend the antenna and it's about the best location to get a decent signal.

The RL has no such provision. Kind of surprising given the HFL feature. I guess we're supposed to keep our phones on our hips but that's not very comfortable and the signal loss is significant.

For now I put the phone in the chest pocket of my jacket. What do you do?

I put it in the storage tray in front of the shifter.

I keep mine in my pocket and have never had any problems. OTOH, in the armrest - that is where acura ideally wants you to put your phone. I know some people put it in the little not an ashtray area (coin holder for me). I sometimes drop my phone in there.

I got a sticky pad and put it on top of the door for the cupholder. It holds my phone and keyless remote nicely -- they don't slide around, don't rattle (although the rest of the car does...) and they're handy.

I probably use my cell phone less than anybody on the planet, so I keep my cell in the bottom section of the center console (where I keep it conveniently plugged into the power outlet there).

I use a magnetic cell phone holder, located right next to my shifter. I bought it at the local cell phone shop for about $6. It mounts to the console with 3M adhesive tape, and then a quarter-sized magnet also gets adhered to the back of your cell phone. I loved it in my previous car, so I bought one for the RL as well. I now have both of my parents as well as my sister using one. I strictly only use the HFL system, but I love having my cell phone itself mounted in clear view, so I can use the display for caller ID (since the HFL only shows the number, not the names). I also run my cell phone charger cord up from the inside of the console power socket, up through the upper console storage area, and out to the phone, when it's sitting in the holder. My black RAZR looks perfect right there, and it's easy to access the keypad when needed, or pick up the phone to find a number to read to the HFL system (I have over 450 numbers in my RAZR).

I found it online as well, if you want a photo or description:

The dealer gave me a Sirius sticky pad, which I keep on the far right side of the dash up near the windshield...keep 2 cell phones there, a Razr and an old Nokia phone with a keypad cover (puchased, I believe in 1998 or so). I've got long arms, so can reach over and grab either phone when needed. I see someone else uses a sticky pad...I reckon a nicer one than I have can be purchased somewhere.

I use one of these: http://tinyurl.com/dxybk which I picked up at Pep Boys for all of $5. The color in the pic is off -- mine is a dark brown that is a good match for the taupe interior.

It's a perfect fit for the top of the cupholder cover, and it doesn't interfere with it opening or closing. To me that's the perfect place to put the cell phone or my iPod, because the cords go right into the center compartment. It holds my SonyEricsson k700i and an iPod perfectly, and they don't move while driving.

I also cut one in half and stuck half on the top of the cover for the "not an ashtray" behind the shifter. Good place to put the keyfob -- i used to put the key inside that compartment, but I would occasionally get the "No Keyless Remote" message when I did that.

Good ideas all. I'm surprised no one uses a vent-holder at all. Our vents are rather horizontal so maybe that wouldn't work well. Until I have an external antenna I really want my phone to be able to look outside with the antenna vertical. Not that I talk on my phone a lot but when I do I like it to work right

Yep. I drive 280 to work which winds itself through the Santa Cruz mountains. Reception is better than I thought it would be but there are some dead spots. As an additional concern it's a good idea to help the phone as much as possible so it doesn't have to radiate very hard to reach a cell. This exposes your body to less radiation.

Thirdly I frequently leave the valley to go stargaze and coverage drops quite a bit then as well.

All in all plenty of reasons for me to try to optimize my cell reception

Have you considered just adding the onstar device onto your verizon plan? That will be the best way to get excellent reception. For an extra $10 (to verizon) per month, it gives you another number - no contract, can cancel whenever you want.
