Hi Everyone,

I just got a used 05 RL and want to update the Nav to 4.92. Looked around at other posts and it seems like I would need to update to 4.31 first, so I bought a 4.31C white DVD from ebay. My question is, when I insert the 4.31C DVD, does it automatically update the firmware? Because it just go to the map like how my original 4.13 normally does. I then tried to hold Menu/Map/Cancel, went to version and pressed download. It showed "Please wait Now downloading software" for a few seconds, goes black then "Please insert disc". I can't tell whether my Nav is updated to 4.31C or not...

Any suggestion/comment is appreciated.

I'm a little lost, there should be two discs, and update disc and a map disc.

When the update is done, you take that out and insert the map disc which stays in.

So you have to completed the first disc and inserted the second, or do you still have the update in?

Yeah, that might be the problem.

If you go here (http://www.navigation.com/is-bin/INT...gationMenu=YES)

and look up your car you should see this:

Quote:
DVD Map Update for 2005 RL and MDX v4.A2

This package contains two DVDs; one DVD software update and one white DVD disc with map coverage for the 48 contiguous United States and the Canadian border region.
The software update (its not a map disc) is critical to update to a newer version.

Do you need a white disc? I have an 05 with the current MAP and white discs. I can't imagine why I would need the old one(s) anymore.

I have two old White Discs. Both are version 1.29.00

My guess is that there haven't been any recent changes.

white05rl,

Is the White Disc version 1.29.00 a software update (not a map disc) that can be used for 4.31C map DVD and eventually I can update to the newer version such as 4.92?

I'm a bit lost, thank you for your patience.

Yes and yes. Each time I purchased a new map update, I also received a White Disc. It seems the last two times, the White Disc has been labeled 1.29.00. That would leave me to believe (but I'm just guessing) that although the map is being updated each time, the White Disc/firmware hasn't been updated for, at least, two map versions.

I'm aware. I wasn't asking the question referring to my car. My question was what changes to the navi after you update the firmware just like i asked in my original question. Earlier 3rd gen 04-06 TL's got a firmware disk update to which i never understood what it did. Did it upgrade the interface to what my 07-08 models navi looks like? IDK... Just very curious.

a little more research
Ok, I appreciate the help I have gotten so far. here is the Info that I could find out.

Database Version: 20041210
Software Version: 1.10.00
And the DVD says: 4.13B

What should I do to update to the most current DVD Version... the 4.A2

I see I "could" download the 4.92DVD off the internet, what would I need to do to make my car compatible to accept this DVD.

Or Should I just pay the 140$ to get the update discs?

Thanks

If you buy the upgrade discs and indicate that you have one of the "update required" vehicles (2005 RL, 2005 MDX, 2005 Odyssey, 2006 Ridgeline) it will include a 1.29.00 software update disc that has to be installed first, then you put in the 4.A2 disc.

I *think* the 4.92 disc also requires the 1.29.00 software update, I think this software was first issued in 2007.

What does the firmware change? The user interface? what exactly does that disc do?

So, in other words, no further update may be required after the first 1.29.00 to go from 4.31C to 4.92, correct? This may be why the OP's Ebay 4.92 only came with the map disc. Does the 4.92 have the same looking graphics, as well?

I haven't bought the update and V4.A2 (4.31) package yet, but if anyone has both of them to spare, shoot me a PM, I'll gladly compensate you. I can always upgrade to the 4.92 later, but as of now, this 4.13 sucks.

BluNosr2, I am a new registered member to this site, however I have been coming here over the past couple years to read posts and comments, so I am definitely not new to AcuraZine.

In December I bought an '05 RL that has the original 4.13(B) disk in it, and I am looking for a copy of the update disk 1.29.00. I have a copy of 4.82 that I got from someone who upgraded, but it will not work without the 1.29.00 update disk.

If you still have a copy of that disk, I will pay you for the shipping with Paypal, and can even return the disk back to you once I get it loaded if you would like to have it back. My zipcode is 80301.

Guys,

How different are our new software discs from the Honda's? (Accord, Pilot, Odyssey, etc). Are they compatible? I understand that they have released their 2012 DVD this past September.

They are identical if you have the same generation of NAVI unit. In other words, if they use the White DVD.

I know the RL disc is definitely the same as the 05-10 Odyssey and the 06-08 Pilots... possibly more too. Basically as long as the system uses the WHITE label disc, it's the exact same disc between the Hondas and Acuras.

Yes I got a copy of the White DVD, which is what an 2005 RL uses, from an '11 Pilot that upgraded to the new version and had the '10 software. That disk will work in my '05 RL, but to upgrade from anything 4.30 and less, you first need to update the software to 4.31. If you order the upgrade DVD they mail you 2 disks, one with the update (which you just put in to update to 4.31) that is used once then is never needed again and one disk DVD that you leave in the DVD player.
Depending on how old your current White DVD is, you may not need the update disk.

From what I recall, the firmware update and map database update resided on the same disc up until a specific version, and then they were separate thereafter. I think it was on or after the release of version 4.72 and newer. The disc updates prior to this version contained the firmware update and map databases on one disc.

I got a 4.31C disc which upgraded my firmware and allowed me to use the 4.92 disc without a problem, however prior to using the 4.31C disc, I was not able to use the 4.92 disc.

I've been trying to get a solid answer on this myself! I bought 4.31 on eBay and will have it tomorrow. Have no idea if there is a separate firmware disc or if it needed ? I hope not..my plan was to go to 4.92 immediately after. I guess I'll know tomorrow
