Should Aspec unit come with instructions?
USAspec? Did you buy it used?

Duh, yeah I meant USA SPEC. I got it off ebay from a larger seller that sells a lot of car audio stuff. If the instructions are missing then it might be a return. Figures, man I always get screwed!
OK, I got my replacement unit today and it had instructions and zip ties around the cables. This appears to be a new one. I wanted to plug it up real quick just to test it out, but I don't see the XM tuner. It must be under the carpet panel next to the NAV unit? Will it be obvious when I remove the upper trunk liner? I have to find the instructions to remove that liner and I have a feeling running that cable in this car is going to be a chore the way it's put together.

Thanks for the help. You are right, searching first is a good thing to do, but I already had a thread that I created on this topic and it was pertinent to the original post and this is a recent thread, not an old one that I resurrected. So I did not consider this as "post littering". This board really does not have that much activity, so new posts help keep it alive. Other boards I frequent, like rcgroups.com, have hundreds of posts a minute, so conserving them is far more important. I would not have created a new thread for my question. Now I will go search for a picture. Hopefully, I can peel it back and try it out tonight. Thanks again.
This is what the XM Module looks like.

Here is a DIY write up for the USA Spec install. Found via "Search in this Forum": "USA".

The pictures have been deleted, but the instructions show that you only need trunk access. There is no need to pull the head unit.

Wow, thanks! And I also see how to pop the gas cap if the electric pop fails. I assume that's what that white handle is. If I weren't so tired, I might go try it out. Looks like a good time to install my cargo net at the same time since it also requires removing the liner to install the mounts.
OK, got it hooked up temporarily to test the unit out. It seems to work fine, but I am disappointed with it's functionality. I have to use the tune rocker to go between tracks. which is fine. I figured out that I can use the knob left and right to change the current category, be it album, artist, etc. But it will take forever to find what I want. What's the point? I cannot use it to find much, it will take too long an require too much attention. I was thinking that I could click the category and see all my albums, artists, etc. This is way too cumbersome. Am I missing something here? If I had know this I would have just got the cheaper aux input like I have for my Honda. It's great as long as I don't go past the letter C. I have a 32G iPod and there is quite a bit on there. PLEASE tell me I am missing something. As it is, I will be using the Direct option, which is a waste.
And has anyone found a nice write up on the installation of the cables? Right now it's all sitting in the trunk. I could figure it out, but I am sure someone has already done the work and solved problems I am am likely to encounter.
Also considering the navtool.... The aspec unit plugged into the larger connector. Does the navtool use the smaller one?

OK, been enjoying the Ipod adaptor, trying to figure out playlists to make it more useable. But sometimes my usaspec unit needs a reboot. Sometimes when I come out to the car in the morning, neither the sat radio or ipod will work. Today, the iPod was not plugged in and the usaspec unit took over both xm1 and xm2 with aux mode so I had no sat radio. I unplugged the y-cable where it connects to the usaspec module and plugged it back in (to reboot it?) and it worked. This is annoying and I don't see any mention of this from others. I see that I have to mount the unit exposed in the truck so I can do this from time to time. Anybody experience this?
4th gen. But it's not the ipod that I reset, it's the aspec unit. It worked great today, just yesterday I had nothing but aux(iPod was not connected) on both XM1 and XM2. This screen would be normal for XM1, but not XM2. I could not access my satellite radio. I rebooted the aspec unit by unplugging the cable of the Y connector to the aspec unit, cutting it's power. As I understand it, there is still power there for some time after the car is shut off, so simply shutting the car off and on again won't do. I think this is why the instructions say it charges your iPod for 30 minutes after you shut the car off. The aspec unit gets power from the xm harness. The iPod was connected at all yesterday, so I don't think that's the problem. I've checked the connections at the Y connection at the XM unit, and those are fine. If no one else is having this I have a bad unit. I wonder if Aspec will swap it out.
