Samsung M610 From Sprint

FYI....HFL works and displays battery and antenna status info. Overall a nice phone with improved reception over my LG325.

Interesting. Sprint told me to make sure we test it intensively and use the 30 day trial period to good advantage. They said BT appears to work, but under intensive use, you may get drop outs or other strange behavior, which is not apparent in quick conversations.

So the transfer command works, and you can use Acura Link?

How is reception and voice quality? These days, it seem manufacturers are so concerned with other features, the primary reason for the phone is sometimes seemingly given second priority.

Thanks

Voice quality is good to excellent. I have not tried Acura Link (see no reason for it either). Only issue I have had was I needed to remove the battery to get the model number from the phone. When I put it back together HFL did not work. Cycled the phone off and back on and all was fine. Total talk time so far with HFL only about 45 minutes. Have not tried the transfer command, but will give it a shot later.

It is my understanding that most Samsung phones work ok with HFL; this is no longer rocket science and am hoping it continues to work fine.

Something else to mention; the phone is so thin I am still getting used to the feel of it. Overall I am quite satisfied with the phone.

Update

Well, phone is not working so good with the cars Bluetooth after all. Turns out supported profiles do not include HFL. Here is what happens:

1) Works correctly for the first few calls, after that calls only go through to the handset, not the car system. Two transfer requests needed to get the call to the car system.

2) People can not hear me very well. Most say it sounds like the microphone is to far away from me.

Sprint has offered to let me try another phone in case there is a problem with the phone, however since HFL is not supported I know that is not the problem.

Almost tempted to keep the phone anyway, because otherwise it is a terrific, but more than likely I will just go back to my LG325 for now.

We just bought a Sanyo M1 and are testing it.

We have a couple of phones paired with the car, and if you "search for next phone" to the Sanyo M1, the first call does not appear to work over the car audio system.

You say Call XYZ, it reconfirms, you say yes, and the MID shows "Calling" (as well as the antenna and battery status), but no audio. You look at the phone, and it is calling out. You flip it open and you can talk to the party, but conversation does not go through the car audio system. The very next call seems to works normally, as expected, going through the audio system. Strange, huh?

I can receive calls, I can transfer from car to phone.

Callers say the audio is OK. You can tell you are in a car, but barely. They say the M1 is better audio quality than through my TMobile BB 8700g

Acura Link does not seem to work.

Here is a thought I will have to test about folks saying they can't hear me, like I am far from the microphone even when I speak loudly into the car microphone. I am betting the phone microphone is active instead of the car microphone. Regardless, the phone will be returned and I will have to decide if I go back to the LG325 or try a Treo.

Final Update

The phone is not compatible. Spoke with Samsung tech and Sprint, both said they were not really sure, but that what I was describing means incompatibility (tried a second M610 and it did the same thing). Sprint rep told me there might be a software update at some point to keep customers happy. My guess is there will be no update.

My solution? I am going to keep the phone for the 30 day trial period. As of now it appears the phones positives outweigh the negatives, plus my LG325 is on its last legs.
