Passenger HID Randomly Will Go OFF

Hey everyone,

This is my first post to this website, and I am proud to say that I just purchased a 2005 Acura RL.

The only issue I have had so far is that yesterday, after having it for not even a week, the passenger HID headlight will randomly just shut off. It will not turn back on again until I turn off my headlights completely, and then turn them back on.

What could be the problem?

Thank you

replace the bulb, if that doesnt work replace the ballast.

Also ensure you have a strong battery and a good alternator.

BTW - if you can do the bulb change yourself you could save a few hundred in installation costs. The other consideration is changing both bulbs so that they are both the same color and if you do it by pulling the front bumper then both changes are easy.
There are threads on how to do this and our search gurus, Heavy and 007, could probably help if you indicate that you wish to attempt this.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if the bulb were the issue, wouldn't it show signs that it is going bad, such as flickering? Rather than just shutting off COMPLETELY, and then turning back on once I flip the switch back and fourth?

I wont correct you, because you might not be wrong.

Like I said, its more than likely one or the other. You have your choices, replace one or the other, or seek other advice.

We have had a few people document ballast failures. Have you tried a "search this forum" with keyword "ballast"? Another part in the chain to consider is the ignitor, but I'm with Heavy, ballast or bulb.

What was the resolution? Did you replace the bulbs, ballast or both?

I had my passenger light go out last week. It turned pink for about a week before going out all together. I didn't have any flicker problem with it. After going pink on me for a week it would come on at startup then before I could walk to the front of the car it would go out and stay off. I replaced the bulb and all is well again
