PA15-HON2 Ipod hookup question

It's a load of crap - There's no MP3 decoder in the headunit. The parts you are suggesting to buy have no intelligence, there's no way this would work.
#83
The unit does play MP3 CDs so why wouldn't this work? Are you speaking from experience? If not, it would be nice if someone could physically confirm whether or not this works.

But still - a PC card reader and flash drive - how could you possibly do that for it to properly read? My brother in law's RL doesn't have anything that could do that.

The DVD unit in the trunk has a PC card slot, but all discussions have always been centered around Techs using it to download data for service purposes, such as a unit swap out.
Anyone tried it for playing music. I do not have a PC card adapter.

Even IF that did work.....I don't think there is software to support it (and that would required something from Acura). I remember some discussion about this on the TL forums, and I think it went nowhere.

When you say it did not do anything weird, does that mean nothing happened? So did the pc card have a compact flash card (with music on it) in it when you connected?
#94
yes. i put some mp3 as well as wma on a 2gb regular CF and when i put it into the slot. Nothing happened. the screen did not appear anything. Then i tried to remove the navigation disk to force the computer to read the pc card but still nothing happened.

My biggest concern is how long is it going to take for places like cructhfield to get a hold on the HON3 once they are produced since we cant buy directly from USASpec.
I have been holding out on buying the HON2 for about 2 months now waiting for the HON3 to show up.

PA15-HON3 vs A16 ACU XL
I spoke with a guy at USA Spec tech support who said he installed a HON3 on a TL with Navtraffic earlier this week and it worked perfectly. He said it has been fully tested on the RL. He also said that USA Spec sent notification of the new products to all their vendors to start placing their orders. Supposedly the only thing stopping the units from shipping to vendors is the rest of the printing of the manuals.
He also indicated that the HON3 will connect directly to the head unit like the HON2, but the ACU XL will connect directly to the XM unit in the right rear of the trunk. Seems to me like it would be easier to connect this unit via the trunk and run the connector cable to the armrest vs pulling the HU out of the dash.
Anyway, the guy at USA spec seemed to think that the ACU was the best product for my 06 RL. You keep all your features and get all the text information from the ipod.

Yeah, it uses XM2...so you get half the presets...boohoo :-)
I wish they had a release date but they would only say "two more weeks". It sounded pretty close though. Who knows, but I'm going to wait. RL owners have been waiting for years...what's a few more weeks!

Live Traffic is an XM service. Do you have an XM receiver in your car? If you do not, Acura probably did not bother to change the rest of the head unit. The XM receiver is a separate box tucked away in the trunk, but you probably still have the connections necessary for things to work.
I do not know what the XM foot print is in Canada, but there are three metro areas in Canada that have traffic coverage according to XM
