Nonfunctioning GPS, How to Set Clock for DST?

My friend's 05 RL has non-functioning GPS (drive doesn't read disc anymore, just says "please insert disc", but we know the disc is good as it works perfectly in my 06). And as he discovered last weekend, this means the clock no longer adjusts ahead automatically for daylight savings time. Is there any way to set the clock manually?

Pull the fuse for the radio or disconnect the battery just before noon or midnight. When you reconnect or replace the fuse, the clock will read 12:00. Make sure you have the radio code as you will need it.

I don't think the issue is the drive or the disc. DST changed in 2007 after a law was passed in 2005. Any car built before that bill passed into law was programmed with the old dates. The dealer can do a firmware update to resolve this issue. If not, your friend will just have to wait until the would have been date passes. Then the car will change on its own.

^^^^. While I agree with what you are saying about build date and firmware update, OP says the GPS doesn't work. Pretty sure cars with navigation have their clocks adjusted automatically. I had the issue you described with my 04 TL, but have never made any adjustments to the clock in my 08 TL-S.

I don't follow your point. Yes the cars adjust their clocks automatically, but I don't believe the logic is in the GPS DVD drive or the disc. I say that because we have seen multiple members here take their car to the dealer for this update, and I don't remember any of them stating that they DVD disc was updated. Maybe the logic is in the drive, but I think the head unit is more likely.

OP, tell your friend to cough up the $200 for an ebay navigation drive.

The clock has always set automatically for him since he has owned the car (4+ years now) previous to the GPS drive crapping out earlier this year, so I am assuming if there had been some kind of update required the previous owner must have done it. The "please insert disc" error brings up a number of other challenges - there is no way to pull up any of the other system menus that normally can be displayed on the screen (HVAC controls, audio settings, etc) and the voice command features (using the steering wheel button) also no longer work.

As far as getting an ebay drive, there is another challenge: this is a Canadian spec RL, which means no sat radio..my understanding is the factory sat radio unit is integrated into the nav drive unit, so unless he can find a Canadian drive unit on ebay it's not going to work with his Canada spec head unit.

I think we are in agreement. I didn't mean the disk, I meant the fact the GPS isn't working and is likely not communicating or getting any updates.

So maybe the real question is: is there any way to MANUALLY set the clock (regardless of DST adjustments or not), other than trying the pull the fuse at midnight trick?

I don't believe there is a way to do it manually if the car has navigation.

This isn't true. The XM module is a stand alone unit in the driver quarter panel. If the car has AcuraLink, the modules are combined, but niether are part of the navigation DVD drive. I don't see any reason a regular one wouldn't work.
