I recently purchased a 2005 RL. I was given one key fob with one key inside (driver 1) , I start it using key because the cap/cover (that you turn) for keyless starting is missing...


1.. Do I need the cap for keyless starting to work? I tried pushing and turning but light on key fob blinks


2... A friend told me door should automatically unlick when walking up to car .. Could something possibly be wrong with programming?

"unlick"? Step 1... Dont listen to your friends.

Step2. There is a dimple on the door handle to lIck the car if the FOB is in your pocket. To unlIck, grab the handle, the sensor is on the inside.

Step3. You will likely need the "handle"/"knob" for the ignition to turn it.

I tried unlocking door door with key fob in pocket but it doesn't work unless I press unlock.


I'll stop at dealer this week to get cap/cover

I would try resync'ing the fob before assuming the handle is gone.

Tone, look at the back of the fob and follow the instructions to sync the fob with the car. If the fob is sync'ed, when you turn the car on, you should see "Welcome Driver 1" on the MID.

If that does not help, or the MID already says that, then I would start troubleshooting the handle.

I also suspect you will need the little knob to do a keyless start.
