Navigation update issue, version 4.73a
Updated my 05 Navigation DVD last night from original DVD version with engine running, went smoothly with no problems. Today I notice that Traffic display shows yellow everywhere. Normally when there is some kind of issue with Nav-traffic it "fixes" itself after several minutes with XM-radio playing, presumably after establishing a satellite signal. This is Philadelphia, but for certain traffic here is never "yellow uber alles".
Anyone seen a similar gitch after Nav update?

Updated Yesterday to 4.73
I have a 2006 RL and updated from 4.31c yesterday after buying for the $149 sale price. It was received 2 business days after I ordered it but maybe because I'm in So Cal and it's shipped from Torrance, Ca. Anyway, the install went smoothly, pop it in and let it download the data. I don't know if it's worth the price. The real noticeable changes are the Zagat restaurant icons and data from Zagat. The mapping wouldn't change much in So Cal. I haven't really noticed much else in the the way maps are displayed. I have an after market GPS for another car and I wish the Alpine one would announce street names like my $150 GPS unit does. Oh well, I'll keep watching for any other differences.

Well, I updated my 05 RL with the 4.73 version on Monday. Downloaded the software disc first. All went smoothly. I also live in Philly - didn't notice any of those yellow lines that you were talking about...

Is the 4.73a update the latest version for 2008 RL? Do I already have this update in my car? Anyone who knows the answer can you please let me know. I wanted to update my software as the current version that I have doesn't have many of the new roads & addressses. Thanks in advance guys.

4.73a is the most current for all RL's.
To get the NavTraffic off the yellow lines (ie to get it to show traffic), just tap the voice command button and say "Display Traffic". I think when you reinstalled, it defaulted to "off".

I recently found a glitch that's in 4.73a and also in the 2007 update for the MDX: an address in Pala, California (SD County) for which the nav directs to a location 5 miles away in the middle of nowhere. Seeking the same address by using POI (it's a resort) resulted in the right location.
I called it in, walked the tech through finding it after he couldn't and he duplicated the error in several versions. Then, we realized that Google Earth uses the same database... turns out that makes the same mistake!
They've put it in a log for the next update, supposedly.

Hey guys,
Just looking at some pics of the RL's on your board when I came across this post. They just came out with a new Nav update disc for my TSX as well. To anyone that has upgraded before, is it worth doing? This is my first Acura, so I just wanted an idea as to whether I should hold off a bit longer before updating. Thanks.

I took the plunge and upgraded from 4.55 to 4.73 with no problem. I was a little concerned at first because I got the following message when I first inserted the DVD.
"Error reading disc, (Incorrect DVD) Contact your dealer"
The screen then changed and said the software was updating and everything is working fine. I think mine boots up a little faster than before, but maybe it just seems that way.

There is only 4.73a, and subsequent updates are sometimes indicated with .b, .c, etc... The one or two disc issue arises from how old the "base" you're coming from is. If you've got 4.3x or whatnot, Acura will send you the "pre-disc" that loads interim update files you won't need if you're coming from a 4.6x version (since you already updated those particular files by loading 4.6x). The "second disc" is the only one youget if you're among those of us with later versions to upgrade from.

Software update disk crashed my NAV system!
I have a 2005 RL and have patiently been waiting for the release of the new NAV DVD. I finally got it last Saturday, two disks: one was a software setup disk and the second one was the new data DVD. I followed the instructions exactly, and when the setup disk was about 98% complete I got a "check disk" error message on the NAV display. After multiple attempts to install the update software, I gave up and called Alpine on Monday and said that I thought the setup disk was corrupted and demanded that they overnight me a new disk (I cannot access any functions that use the NAV display screen, which is about 95% of them!).
Got the new disks today (they also sent another data DVD), and I'm still having the same problem. As soon as I start the car, I get the "downloading new software" message, then eventually the "check disk" error. The same thing happens REGARDLESS of what disk I have in the NAV DVD unit. It's like the corrupt update software got loaded into the NAV unit's memory and I can't figure out how to delete it. I even disconnected the battery for several hours, hoping that whatever computer part that was retaining the bad disk image would be erased, but still no joy.
To say that I'm beyond furious over this problem would be putting it mildly! My dealer said yesterday that the issue is between Alpine and me, nothing they could do. But there HAS to be a way to erase that bad software and start from scratch. Anyone have a clue on how to do it?
