New Feature Enhancement for the 2013 DVD Map Update:
There is a new setting of Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) for use on US highways, where there is an ETC toll collection system in use. Many toll roads across the US and Canada only utilize the ETC system. Users may now choose to 'minimize' or 'maximize' routing on these toll roads under the SETTINGS->ROUTING AND GUIDANCE options. The default setting is set to 'minimize' ETC, which means the system will try to avoid ETC only roads. Users who have registered with their local ETC highway agency, and have a valid transponder in their vehicle, can choose the 'maximize' setting to ensure they are routed on these ETC only highways.

I'm pretty disappointed with last years DVD. I bought it before this newest update and was updating from the original disk (2006). There are still many restaurants missing and road revisions that are several years old missing. I'm not impressed. Even this new toll function should have been implemented in the older DVDs. My 98 RL Navi had a toll avoidance function. (although not the ETC roads)

 

Toll avoidance has always been around, IMO this is a simple re-branding tactic.

You have to think these updates are a year if not more old when they come out, so to keep up with restaurants is nearly impossible.

My advice to anyone who wants accurate real time mapping is to use a smart phone app.

 

Would I be able to update straight to the 2013 map without any hassle?
