Nav Traffic Not Working

Nav Traffic Not Working
The traffic portion of my navigation system is not working. I took my vehicle in for service and asked them to check that. I was told that becuase I didn't renew my XM that it didn't work. Anyone have any input?

In addition, although my 06 has a 12 month introductory period which is not yet up, I did find that I had no nav traffic flow information, but did get traffic incident information. I called up XM, we did the reset, etc. and in the end, after a week of not trying real hard to investigate it, traffic flow flashed briefly on the screen.
Voice command: Display traffic, and lo and behold.
I think at one point, I shut down all the icons, because over time, I asked for too many and was getting too much info. With my hide all command, I did not realize I was also hiding traffic. It would not be that simple would it?
