NAV screen

I have been trying to set the default on my NAV screen to go to the nighttime or black screen when I turn my headlights on. I've tried the menu options, etc. but nothing seems to work. Any help here? Thanks.

Welcome to the forums.

Yes - turn on your headlights. Then with the headlights on, push the little round button which controls day/night/off and push it until it is at the darker/night setting. Turn your headlights off, and the screen should go back to being bright. If it does not - with the headlights on - push that same button until it is bright.

Now test it with turning your headlights on and off.

This may not help, but when attempting to verify my own settings, I found that it *really* has to be dark outside for the screen to darken...even when turning on the lights...at least the way things are set up now.

hmmm. Well I just went down to the car to see if I'm imagining things. It's still light outside here. When I turn on the lights, the nav screen along with all the other interior lights, including the dash lights, are bright. They do not darken until I place a cover over the sensor at the base of the front windshield. Then, everything goes dim, including the nav screen.

Using the buttom to control day/night/off seems to change the way that works on my setup, but restarting the car takes everything back to original. Wouldn't some of these night and day settings be controlled by the remote?

OT somewhat but regarding the nav screen, I'm always having to fiddle with the brightness settings. Away from city lights I prefer the dim settings, even on the night screen. However, in the city if there is a lot of outside lighting, I prefer a dimmed down day screen.

Here's all I could find with a quick run throgh of the manuals...

Page 91 of the Navigation Manual indicates that day, night or off mode relating to the headlights is in *Auto* mode when the ignition is turned on. The manual goes on to state that the auto mode can be temporarily overridden with the day, night, off button. Note that on this page there is no mention of the light sensor at the base of the windshield. It's in the manual somewhere else.

Page 16 of the Navigation Manual goes into the Keyless Memory Settings.

It wouldn't surprise me a bit if overriding the auto mode, turning off the car, locking the car, unlocking the car, and then restarting the car, might remember the overide, even though there is not a keyless emblem associated with the page 91 discussion.

In any event, having the screen dim only when it's getting fairly dark works well for me. Some states require the headlights to be on when the wipers are on and it would very well be a nuisance to have the screen go dark when switching the lights on during daylight in those circumstances.
