On November 7, the Two Towers, The Complete Recording, will be released on 4 discs. Like the Fellowship, it will contain 3 CDs and a DVD-A, which contains the entire soundtrack. If it sounds as good in the RL as Fellowship, it should be a treat. The Rohan theme was one of my favorites from the trilogy. Here is the link where I found the announcement.

My free CD via www.5point1.com was Steve Miller 'Fly Like An Eagle'. It is recorded in DTS and sounds wonderful. Any surround sound CD/DVD I buy will be for car alone. My home system is trictly 2 channel, and a fine one it is. May need to increase my CDs to enjoy the features of the RLs stereo.

Both Blue Man offerings, The Complex and Audio are amazing in DVD-A.
My next order will be Steely Dan DVD's, probably Goucho, and then Fagan's Morph the Cat.
Me? Godwhacker? A Steely Dan fan???

Torch & Pitchfork Posse
Dire Straights - Brothers in Arms...can crank it with no distortions. Also this is one example where the RLs Bose system sounds best to me over the TLs ELS.
Seal - Greatest Hits...you can almost see Heidi Klum sitting beside you.
Fleetwood Mac - The Dance...DVD-A brings out the harmony of Mac like never before.
Does anyone know if Supertramp - Breakfast in America is available in DVD-A?

These recordings were created so beautifully in the studio that it's the old "garbage in garbage out" saying. If one starts with a great recording it's much easier to produce a great DVD-A disc.
Old joke:
Question: Why has Steely Dan sold 30 million albums?
Answer: Because people that buy Steely Dan music don't know how to download it for free off the internet
Thanks for reviving this old thread.

No problem! I have looked at several online sites, and it seems like the same DVD-A titles keep coming up, so I thought I would resurrect this threat to get some ideas not only on what DVD-A's to get, but also where to get them. Also, I did not look at DTS discs yet.
Fagan and Becker are almost notorious for their pickiness and perfectionism in the studio, so it does not surprise me that their DVD-A offerings are some of the best. I already have the Steely Dan and Fagan albums on my ipod, but since Gaucho is one of my favorite albums, I may go ahead and get the DVD-A of it. I can tell there is a definate difference in sound quality in my RL between my ipod in the AUX and DVD-A versions of Blue Man Group songs, although the ipod is still way better than XM and about the same at regular CD, at least IMHO.
I was hoping that "Everything Must Go" would be out on DVD-A, but I have not seen it yet.
Agree that Dire Straights - Brothers in Arms, is a great album (I think I still have it on vinyl...you remember records?), and Fleetwood Mac would also be a good addition.
Just FYI, I have heard that the new Rush album, "Snakes & Arrows", slated for release on May 1st, may use a new DVD format, "DVD-Album". I don't know if it will work with our RL's system (since it is a new format, I kind of doubt it).

On DTS I have The Eagle's "Hotel California" and Sting's "Brand New Day". 2 recordings that are very well done. I wouldn't hesitate buying DTS recordings- they sound great in our RL and wonderful in a home theater environment.

Among others:
The Beatles - Love. Amazing.
Fleetwood Mac - Rumours. It's like I've never really heard the album before!
Tesla - SRO. Disappointing as a DVD-A, not a great live recording...okay only because I REALLY like 'em.
Blue Man Group - Audio - Less pleasing than The Complex.

Got done ripping the audio out of one of my video DVDs with 5.1 and then burning a DVD-A from the tracks. Took awhile to organize and assemble the tracks, but the results are well worth it. I just sat in my garage and listened to an hour of music with the new DVD-A I made. Awesome!
Don't know if I have the patience to do it often, and I don't have that many musically oriented DVD-V's, but for a few choice ones from artists/albums where there is no DVD-A or DTS available, its worth it.

Was shopping at my local Beast Buy tonight, when I spotted Steely's "Gaucho" on DVD-A. A few weeks back, I had asked the crack (or more likely, ON crack) Beast Buy staff if they had any DVD-A's or DTS CD's and they had told me "no", so I didn't bother to look. I had some time tonight, and, in addition to Gaucho, I found Alan Parsons' "On Air" on DTS. There were a few others that I passed on, but more than I had expected.
Oh, happy day!!!. Gaucho sounds amazing on DVD-A, but Alan Parsons, the master soundman that he is and more modern recording, is just incredible on DTS.
