LASER detection on Passport 9500

My Passport 9500 keeps giving a laser alert? I have it mounted on the visor clip...Is there a way to fix this?

Do you have ACC (Adaptive Cruise Control)? The ACC is controlled with the same technology as LADAR and will trip the sensor. I don't have ACC so I don't know if turning it off cruise control would help, but it may be worth a try. I know the Honda locking systems trip my V1 laser, and some cars will do the same on the highway. I always figured they had some sort of ACC. If ACC is not possible, I would have to suggest a defective detector...?

How frequent is it? If it isn't very frequent I would say ignore it b/c a laser alert is practically worthless. Once it goes off you are screwed; so unless you really like to know that you just got sniped, it won't matter.

ACC does not trigger laser, not when it is on in my car. There are other cars, very rarely, and it does not show up as laser, but rather as radar.

The only things I noticed that trip laser is:

1. Bright sunlight
2. Bright headlights
3. Any movement of the detector while it is turned on.

Visor is not the best position as window tint blocks it plus for as long as I owned my detectors not a single one gave me a legitimate laser alert. What I did get was 2 tickets from laser guns.

That is when I got a ZR3 shifter and later Blinder.

Detectors I used to own: Escort 8500, 8500 X50 and Redline (current).

Your 9500 has the same technology as 8500 x50 as far as detection of radar and laser signals goes.

It's the LED's in the temp/radio station display unit right under the center speaker. Some other post says it's the NAV screen. My 9500 is mounted right up against the window, which eliminates this.

not sure why this post was resurrected, the only defense against Laser (Lidar) is a jammer.

ACC DOES trigger Laser....

try driving ahead of behind one of those new BMW/AUDI with ACC's....

so that does solve the issue....but if your worried about COPS using Laser, remember that Laser is a tag it and bag it system....by the time your system gives you an alert, your already tagged.....

You could use a LASER SCRAMBLER which would save you from COPS and mess up the BMW/AUDI driving around you

I mentioned earlier that BMWs trigger the detector, I also mentioned it gets triggered on the radar bands not on laser.

as far as getting taged...that was also my early point.

Jam or be ticketed, easy as that.

^^^ didnt read your post bro LOL

but yeah I own a Whistler and the Laser went insane when i was following this Audi....so i decided to mess around....when i was following closely the Laser went insane....when i was on the side, Laser was quite but when i tried to get closer (in parallel), Laser started beeping again....and when i was upfront, the Laser went bonkers !!!

well that was my experience....

how do you like the ZR3 ? how much did u pay for it (if you dont mind me asking) and how well does it function ?

The ZR3 was an excellent shifter, not a single ticket with it. Right now it is all boxed up and waiting to be sold along with a Blinder M47-x 4 shifter unit.

I have upgraded to ZR4 and the other two were supposed to have gotten sold with the RL. Unfortunately they were illegal in Texas so now I'll be selling them separately.

I didn't list it yet but I am thinking $100 for the Escort ZR3 and $550 for the Blinder M47.

Can do both for $600 shipped to make my life easier.

they both are stand alone units. ZR3 has 3 shifters and the Blinder has 4.

I had them both running side by side on my RL until I removed them prior to sale.

ZR3 is the older model and thus the discount, the new one cost me $449. Both were bought direct from escort.

I credit the ZR3 with ticket free driving and it combines very well with Escort 8500, X50, 9500 or Redline. It essentially uses the detector to display all commands. It also comes with its own display unit if that's what you prefer.

Either way, it's a bargain for a very thoroughly tested laser jammer

professional install is recommended as you got to pull the wire across the entire car. Or you can just mount all 3 in the front as that is where most of the laser hits will occur.

I was about to call on the Texas Law, but you're right! Sept. 1, 2011 it went into effect and makes the sale, install, or use a Class C misdemeanor in TX.

That's criminal shit now. No little petty traffic violation; that will get you a criminal record.

You will only get a ticket though, not handcuffs.

^^^ hahaha i would say you deserved that one LOL

i was driving from LA to Seattle on the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway) and was around Frisco when I got pulled over by a cop in a modded Mustang (like the one in Transformers Part1)....i was like "woaaahhh, sexy car Sir....I deserve this ticket...."

he let me go without even checking my license I was doing 10 miles above speed limit and he popped a Uturn to pull me over....once he let me go, he did a little burnout and left, the exhaust tone left an impression on my head....

Yeah, the motocops in Austin love their laser guns. They also like to setup speed traps, sometimes with civilian cars using the gun. That's why I seldomly go over 5 over in the city limits where there are big shoulders.
