Keyfob "Remote Battery Low" But it Isn't
My friend with an 05 RL is having issues every few days with his keyfobs. Fob #2 in particular will keep saying the remote battery is low a couple times a week, but the battery tests fine. Fob #1 has the same issue but seems to happen less often, maybe once or twice a month. Dealer tested both fobs and says they both need to be replaced, as the batteries in each test fine but when they "scan" the fobs both fobs are reporting voltage below 2V which trips the MID display in the car.
Of course, replacement fobs from the dealer are like $600 (this is Canada).
Any other possible remedy, or is it off to ebay to look for replacements?

LOL yes. Brand new batteries, same problem. Batteries always test fine. And according to the dealer each fob always indicates the same battery voltage when scanned by them (they claim when tested fob 2 always reads lower voltage than fob 1, but both fobs are indicating low battery), regardless of what the actual battery voltage is when the batteries are removed and tested. Thus their diagnosis that both fobs need to be replaced
The fobs were never scan tested before. And originally, replacing the battery in the only fob that was doing it (#2) seemed to work but then both fobs starting doing it even with brand new batteries.

you suggested it in your Original Post.
you'll still need the dealer to help program the keys, butt it should def. be cheaper than 600.
Dont know what else to tell you other than to source the keys elsewhere other than the dealer.
Here is my advice, get new, brand name batteries. These do have a shelf life, and new may not be new.
Make sure they are the same thickness as the OE's. Cheap off brands have been known to be thinner and not contact well.
Install them correctly, seating properly, and check the internals for damage. Always rule out human error. Always.
If all of those are correct and still an issue, after 2 years, buy a new FOB brah.

I mentioned this on another similar thread. Something like this happened to me. I tried a new battery but still got the warning in the MID screen. I found that the battery in the fob was not properly set into position. The case still closed but the battery apparent was loose. After setting it in completely so that the battery did not fall out when the cover was still off fixed the problem for me.
