Intermediate Nav dvd updates needed
Where to get intermediate dvd's
Hi all-- have been following all threads re Nav DvD's. I have a 2005 with the original white Dvd. I thought I could buy a new 4.63 (or now 4.64) and all would be ok. After reading through a lot of these posts I see that to update a 2005 system one needs to go through a series of dvd's before loading the latest one. I do not wish to buy 2 or 3 dvd's to effect this upgrade. Where can I get a copy of the intermediate dvd's so that I would be able to then buy and load the latest one without having the system go into the diagnostics mode? Also, can I borrow an intermediate dvd from a friend with a TSX or TL pr MDX? From what I have read it seems that the 05 RL will accept only white dvd's. Do the other models of Acura have white, or a color that is not compatible with the RL?
I am sorry for the confusion, but I want to get the latest Dvd at the right price and avoid mistakes!
Thanks to all for this great info!

Call Alpine and explain what you have to them, e.g., 4.1x, and ask if 4.64 will update you without intermediate updates. Ask if what the return policies are. Theoretically, when you buy 4.64, it takes care of it all.
4.62 was the defective update, that only worked sometimes, and so was yanked off the market.
4.63 was delivered to dealers on other cars, I think the 2009 TSX, and not available for sale to the general public. As such 4.63 was not designed to upgrade White DVDs from 2005 forward.
There is allegedly a 4.73 out there, speculatively delivered with the 2009 TL, but that has not been confirmed on this board.
Let us know what Alpine says! Clear it up for us.

If I were you I would just download (from a torrent site) the ISO image to 4.31 and then 4.63. There is a slight bug on the 4.63 disc, but you can repair it by going into diagnostic mode, then holding down map button for 5 seconds, then choosing "complete" and the bug goes away permanently. You answer your other question, you must use white discs, not orange. Also, be sure to burn at slow speed to Verbatim DL DVD+R's.

If you do end up trying the 4.64 disc (the version that one Alpines website that they SAY is for the '05), please let us know. I don't think anyone here has tried it in an '05 yet. It would be great if the 4.64 worked such that you didn't need any 'intermediate' discs.

dvd update
called Alpine- they claim 4.64 is latest dvd out there for 05 RL. They say you don't need any intermediate updates, and that directly using the 4.64 will be fine. They have no knowledge of a 4.73 version for the RL. Now, question is where to find a 4.64 version other than from Alpine?

The 4.64 discs will start showing up on ebay within a few months. I don't believe Alpine though that the 05's can go straight from 4.13 to 4.6x. I would go toe a dealer and at least patch up to 4.31 or 4.56 from a borrowed disc. The updates only take 5 minutes.
