HFL setup problems

Hi,

I haven't had any luck searching through the forums for answers, so here I am....

I recently bought a 2005 RL and tried at first to setup my phone but couldn't get anywhere. When I try to setup the phone, it never recognizes any command I say. It's almost like the microphone isn't connected or something. Has anyone else had similar issues when trying the initial setup? The car didn't come with the owner's manual so all I have to go on is what I've read online, which so far hasn't gotten me anywhere.

Try pressing the phone button on the steering wheel and say "help", tell us what is the feedback.
Now try pressing the voice recognition button ( different one) and say help, this is the main voice recognition not the hands free, tell us what is the feedback.

When I hit the phone button and say "help," nothing happens. I don't even get the beep prompting you to speak, not sure if I'm supposed to though. When I press the talk button I get the beep, but it still responds with "please repeat" or one of the other responses indicating it doesn't understand.

What about the other button?, the round one of the left side of the steering wheel?
if it does recognize your voice it means you might have a bad HFL module.

That's the one that just repeats itself like it doesn't understand.

Nothing at all with that one, doesn't beep, doesn't reply when I say something, just nothing.

you might have few issues:
bad HFL unit
microphone not adjusted
I'm not sure if there is a fuse but you need to get into diagnostics mode in the navigation screen and test your microphone level.

Your HFL module probably disconnected, check passenger side kick panel...
