HFL Problem
I just paired my iphone 3g with my 2005 RL, and had no issues with the pairing at all. I can make a call just fine, everything is great.
However, when i receive a call, I press the 'talk' button to answer on the steering wheel, and then the stereo comes back on instead of staying muted as I would imagine it should. The caller can hear me fine, but I cannot hear them. If i turn down the stereo, I still cannot hear them, but they can hear me.
Is this an iphone issue, or some configuration I've done incorrectly? Or maybe I need to have the HFL looked at?

make sure you are hitting the right "talk" button. There's one for the HFL and one for Voice Commands

The problem is not HFL, it is the Bluetooth configuration on the iPhone. It does not adequately allow for HFL profiles, but can work somewhat with the headset profile. Some people have no problem, but many do.

Some phones do not have very robust Bluetooth stacks and further, some phones' software are configured differently based on the carrier. Verizon was notorious for diabling Bluetooth capabilities on some phone models.

I'm having the same problem. When I first paired my 3G with the RL it worked perfectly. However, at some point over the last two weeks it stopped working most of the time. On rare occassions I can get it to work but it's very inconsistent.

Acura HFL vs. 3G, 2.1 iPhone
No luck with Apple tech, they would not revert back to 2.0 version on my phone due to company policy. What ever that meens! I know now that 2.1 G3 has a problem with my HFL and 2.0 version works fine. Apple tech told me that Acura should keep up with updates; my opinion that iPhone system should be backward compatable and new updates should improve the phone performance otherwise no car company could keep up with iPhone updates. This is just my two cents.

I do not have an iphone. I have a MotoQ9h with ATT. This is just a guess...
ATT has been getting hammered with issues on th 3G iphone. In my area, there has been a lot of things going on with the 3G network lately, which has not caused too many issues with my MotoQ, but it is noticeable. In fact, many things have gotten faster with my MotoQ (especially email delivery and 3G connectivity / coverage). I have wondered if these 'adjustments' were to address iphone issues ATT is under pressure to correct.
My guess is that to alleviate some of the issues with the wildly popular iphone, ATT pushed out updates to the software, or the 2.1 version that helped the 3G issues, but monkeyed wth the Bluetooth configuration. That may have introduced the problems some of you are reporting with HFL.
If you read some of the boards out there, Bluetooth issues with the 3G iphone are pretty widespread. And no just with Acura's HFL profile. Pairing with other devices and auto HF profiles seems to be compromised.
Perhaps in attempt to address the 3G issues the iphone was having with ATTs network, they created new issues by compromising the Bluetooth functionality?

Acura HFL vs. 3G, 2.1 iPhone
I just got off the phone with Apple tech rep and he told me that they are working on the issue and expected to release 2.2 by the end of this year to fix the problem. I hope they do.

firmware 2.2 is out, so if you want to update to that and try again maybe that will help you. I have hacked my iphone and need to get the hacked firmware put on mine - trying to decide if i want to do that since my phone is working fine on 2.1 (aside from the HFL issue - i still have intermittent trouble with receiving calls only, i can always place calls with no problems.)

If you ever need to downgrade the version on your iPhone, you simply need to search (google) for the .isfw file that you need. The .isfw file is the backup file your system has and if you ctrl+click (using a pc) on the restore option in itunes you can search for an .isfw file of your choice (just clicking on the restore button will take the last backup file you created).
This is a similar process if you have ever jailbroken your phone. I just purchased my 05RL and haven't been able to play with the BT and my 3g iphone.
