gps "street view"

has anyone looked at Google maps "Street View"? Not the aireal map view or satellite view, but the new street level view.

Wonder how long before we will get this as an optional view in car navi systems.

Would help in identifying destination in new areas.

We have it in Tampa. Very slick, and it is nice to have a visual reference from street view as most of us do not fly into our destinations.

I am not in the city limits and my small community is not yet mapped for Street View. I have to be sure the RL is washed in the driveway when they scan by!

On the other hand....it does aide stalkers & thieves!

Interesting that you said that because when they mapped my street, my RL was indeed in the driveway. It had to be a weekend (probably right before I washed it), because car is always in garage or at work during the week.

Interesting. All it takes is more DVD space. One of the things we do is lidar map making for Tele Atlas, the NavTeq competitor. We have a plane with lidar gear fly over areas and the processed data is good enough for 3D image layers on top of maps used for GPS currently.

I would not be surprised if this is where technology takes us. A HDD Nav system would solve the space problem I would think. Look for it as an industry first, likely in an Acura and cosponsored with Google!!

I agree - this is where we are headed, but for right now I'd be satisfied with a 4.6 update for my 05 and navtraffic that worked

OK, I can't resist. I get street view today when I look out my car windows!
