I was checking out my friends Odyssey Elite on Saturday and noticed that the Nav acted familiar but different. I researched it and it appears that it is a non-subscription, FM based system utilizing the attributes of RDS.
The good news is that there is no monthly bill, the bad news is that the update speeds are slower. (Can be 8 to 10 mins in busy cities). It operates using the same sources as our XM based system.
Anybody think that this is the way it's going to go? The alternative would be a 3G/4G online map/traffic display such as Google maps.

 

I have a portable Garmin with free traffic and it almost never shows me ANYTHING! When it does, it's very spotty and slow to update.
