connecting iriver MP3 to 2006 RL
I am looking for the accessory that is out there somewhere - don't know what its called, but it adds an AUX mic input that you can simply plug the MP3 player into. Anyone know what its called? I'm bummed that the 2006 RL doesn't have an AUX input, or at least I can't find one!

There have been many solutions to this. I would get the combination iPod and Aux In unit just in case. They are almost the same cost. Installation is the same. Look at the HON2 thread and to get an idea. USASpec, NeoAudio, Dice, Blitz all make solutions. Wait a few weeks and get the newest USASpec version which can display iPod text on the screen, while preserving the XM.

I know that. It is just that for almost the same money, you can get both capabilities. Installation is going to be the hardest part, and if at some time you get an iPod/phone or a passenger has one, you have the capability.
Even better might be to get the USB capability that is in another thread, but it seems the capability is not quite there yet.

This appears to be the latest unit iPod capable unit, but earlier ones, such as what I have work perfectly fine. They don't show it clearly, but the box itself has two RCA plugs. You take a 3 mm headphone jack Y-cable to RCA L and R. You can route the cables anywhere, this is what I did in my 2006.

Thanks. I did see that post on the USB connection, and I think I'm going to wait and see if the bugs get worked out. I like the idea of a thumb drive which holds more content than my 4GB MP3 player anyway. We don't really care about the display as we use talk radio show podcasts to listen to on our daily hour plus commute (each way)! Right now I copy to CD-R's and then throw them away. Only problem with that is if you want to listen to music on another CD, and then go back to the program, you have to remember where you were and then fast forward from the beginning. I am hoping that either the USB or external mic connection to an mp3 player will hold its place.
