CD changer not reading, I'm thinking upgrade, suggestions?

My CD plarer has never recognized a cd since I purchased my '05 RL in Dec '08. I was going to just buy a used OEM radio and replace it, and add a nav bypass for a DVD/TV player and rear view camera. Just wanted to check to see what others would recomend in this situation, if you would proceed as I mentioned or go down another path, such as aftermarket?

I've got an 05 RL too, that I purchased used this year. The CD player will let you load 6 CDs but just continues to blink "CD 1" or 2 or whichever but won't ever play. My searching has led me to realize that to have it repaired will cost between $200 - $400 depending on what they find when they get into it. Many of my local shops say they have to take it out & send it to California for repair but there's a couple of radio repair men here that are familiar with them. I'm in the Salisbury, NC area. Replacing will run up to a grand. Good luck with yours!

I've only been an 05 Acura RL owner for a week but it took me a little bit to realize I had to press "LOAD" to put in a disc.

Also, if you are trying DVD-MP3 discs they don't work.

I'm sure you already know this, but I can see a few people missing it.

I took it to a shop in OKC and found the optic was bad, which he could not repair. I purchased a used one on car-parts.com for $300 shipped, for the whole center stack. If I can't just replace the cd changer, I can take it to the dealership and they said they would provide me with the radio code for free.... I'll let you know.

I replaced the radio with a salvage unit. It took me two to get a working one though. The first one was out of Wisconsin and did not work, they took it back and gave me a refund. If you buy a salvage unit from carparts.com (make sure it is under a warrenty) have a shop install it for you, the local dealer can provide you with a code if it doesn't come with one, mine did over the phone. I installed mine, it isn't too hard. Once you have the new one in, you need to hold the 1 and the 6 while turning the radio on, this will give you the radio number the dealer needs to give you the unlock code (if it doesn't have one). If you have any other questions, PM me, I probably won't moniter this thread anymore.
