Bluetooth Road/Wind Noise

I have a 2G iPhone and a 3G iPhone paired with my 2005 RL. When I am on the phone using the bluetooth feature with either phone, the caller on the other end hears all the road/wind noise. It sounds as if all my windows are rolled down and the wind noise is picked up through the microphone. I've tried unpairing-repairing exercise which didn't help. I also convinced the dealer to replace the bluetooth unit (2 microphones and BT unit) which hasn't helped. Would the firmware have anything to do with this problem? Any ideas would help?

are your dash center air vents pointed upward?

if so, the wind flow from these vents will be picked up by the overhead console microphone. similarly an open sunroof (or tilt up / open) will impact the microphones.

I heard about the vents affecting the wind noise (from the dealer). I've got used to turning OFF the AC when i make or get calls but the noise is still there. I wonder if its something with my sunroof - although the cabin is darn quiet so I doubt it.

You should not have to turn off the AC or vents. I can use my HFL and voice commands with the fan level 3-5 with no issues. But the windows and sunroof need be closed and the vents not pointed upwards (in the direction of the microphone in the overhead console). This is mentioned in the manual.

If you are familiar with the NAVI diagnostic screens, there are self tests in there and MIC adjustment functions (perhaps you mic is set to be oversensitive?). These are intended for a tech's use.

TampaRl - any suggestions on calibrating the mic so its not oversensitive? I've calibrated a few times but maybe there's something obvious I missed. Thanks for the replies.

The only way to calibrate the mic is through the NAVI Diagnostic screens.

Do you have the windows & sunroof closed? fan speed 3 or less? vents not pointed up towards the overhead console?

If that does not work, you may need to consult a dealer to see if there is an equipment defect.
