Anyone know how to adjust the illumination on the steering wheel on 05 RL? Never figured out how to brighten the buttons. Asked the dealer once during service but the answer was you cannot. Read the manual and no luck.

After 3 years, figured out my dealer sucks so thought you guys would know better. Thanks for the help.

 

They do not adjust.

I too wish they could be made slighty brighter.

When I adjust the dash lights for my '06, the steering wheel illumination varies, too.

 

Ballinger, you are correct, the illumination on the steering wheel controls do vary with the dash control brightness.

I just checked in my garage with the lights out and headlights off. I usually have my dash lights near maximum illumination (and just one notch below so the NAVI will change from day to night when appropriate). When I scrolled the illumination down, the steering wheel lights also dimmed, if very, very subtle.

The window switch illumination on the armrests do not vary.

Still, I would like to make the steering wheel illumination just a bit brighter.

 

Have never paid much attention to the steering wheel illumination of the buttons, but I checked last night as well.
I have an 05 and the dash intensity does control the sterring wheel as well. That said, the illumination of the sterring wheel buttons is so poor it is difficult to notice the difference. However, I turned it all the way down and could notice a difference. Some of the buttons are so poorly illuminated, that it is difficult to see them at full brightness. On mine in order of brightest to dimmest:
Select and up/down arrows are the brightest.
Mode button next (but the other buttons around Mode are hardly illuminated)
HFL next
Voice control
Last are all the Cruise Control buttons and it is hard to say they are illuminated at all.

I can't really say if this has changed over time as I have not paid that much attention to them before.

 

One thing I noticed when I bought my used RL: a gentle cleaning of the steering wheel removed soil from the whitish symbols on the controls... and they illuminated more brightly afterward.

 

my "mode" button (on the steering wheel) no longer seems to light up... is it supposed to??

Also... my TL has power side mirrors and heated mirrors... the controls (on the dash...left of the steering wheel) do not light up... should they?
