Address book missing....

I had to change the battery today in my '05 RL as my dealer resorted to saying it was in need of replacing and could be the cause of other problems I was having and wouldn't work on those problems until the battery was replaced. So Off to autozone to get them to swap out my optima showing them my dealer print out of the test, which showed the battery having "--" Cold Cranking Amps! They tested it and it showed the 720CCA rated battery had 930CCA's!! Said alternator was fine and the regulator was not stuck on it and wasn't the cause of the high CCA's so they swaped the battery out for me. Oddly enough the old battery was only charged 44% too...

Now all is fine except I now lost the ability to access the address book or input my home address. The option is greyed out on the screen. I inputed the codes for the radio and navi already and tried turning the car on and off with no luck.

Any advice suggestions before I call my dealer in the morning?

Sarge,

Did you have your address book set up with a PIN?

If not, try re-linking your FOB. The address book links to the Driver 1 and Driver 2 FOBs, so you can have different address books for each driver. It may have lost the link with the battery changeover. Hopefully the address book data is still there and it is just not recognizing the FOB so it can be displayed / accessed.

Yeah that did it. Had to do it a few times to get the door handle to work right but that got the address book part back to functionality.

First time I paired it and got out of the car I couldn't lock the car by touching the door handle, yet I could unlock it by touching it. after a few times in and out of the car pairing it and locking and unlocking it finally worked.

Thanks for the help. Now hopefully when my headlight flickers again the dealer will replace it. they didnt really check it b/c it didn't do it for them and they saw the battery on their machine as bad. Don't understand how they got the battery to read "--" for CCA's when it had more than it should have.

The technology in these cars can be dazzling. But also diagnosing issues can be dumbfounding.

The RL, like a pc, sometimes needs a reboot....especially when battery issues surface. It seems to shut down features and accessories when battery power is compromised.

My biggest worry when I had a battery go dead was losing personal settings, address book, etc. All of which are time consuming to reset. So far I have only had to re-enter the manufacturer PIN to enable the NAVI, but once booted, all systems were go.

I would love to have all these settings backed up in say, a USB embedded into the FOB. This way you could port them into the FOB memory, and should your RL go 'brain dead', you simply plug in the FOB into a USB port in the RL and voila, all your settings are restored.

I would take it further and have settings management on the MyAcura.com page that you can manage online, like address books, music, etc. Transfer to your FOB via USB, then plug into the RL.

Maybe in the next generation.

Totally agree and the Dealers aren't suitably equipped and/or trained to deal with these issues.

Forgot to add that Settings Management on MyAcura.com is an excellent idea.

3G RL: -
Solid State non volatile 50 to 100 Gig RAM.
Partition for Audio, Nav and Operating System.
USB port for I/O
DVD/CD R/W for import of music, backups and NAV info. Therefore the Nav would be faster than the present DVD access.
Plug the phone in for address book importation.
VGA has external I/P for a laptop.
System has dual VGA O/P's so the rear screen can also see the maps etc. DVD movies only viewable from the rear VGA.
