Add a fuse issue

I am trying to hardwire my V1 radar detector into my 2006 RL. As several posts suggested, I got a mini add a fuse (specifically a Buss Fuses HHH accessory mini add a line) and crimped the wire to the V1 direct wire assembly. I attached the ground from the direct wire assembly with a screw and nut to the metal frame that holds the diagnostic plug. I removed the 7.5amp radio fuse and plugged the add a fuse in with the original fuse at the bottom and a 2 amp fuse for the top. I plugged the add a fuse in....no power to the radio (as it should be) but, the radar dectector had power (to be clear, this is with the ignition completely off). I flipped the add a fuse to see if that would make a difference and it still gave ignition off power to the V1. I tried the TPMS fuse too and get the same result (thinking the TPMS fuse had to be a switched one too).

I am stumped ! I would greatly appreciate any suggestion or even an explanation on how this is possible!!!

You chose a fuse that is always hot. The manual has a fuse map that will tell you which are which.

What fuse # did you use?

I used the radio fuse (#5). People in other threads have used it with success. Since the add a fuse is rated at 10 amps, I was looking for fuses 10 amps or under.

Post a link to the other threads... most radios are always powered for the memory and clock.

You need a test light to track down the right fuse.
