2005 does what it wants, when it wants to?

I have set the auto steering wheel and seat retraction at shutdown to 'ON' several times but it works only part time? Also the headlights do not seem to turn with the steering on the road. I read here that they should pivot from side to side upon starting up, is this correct? What to do? I'm new to this site and just acquired this RL, bear with me please.

Check your battery. The majority of electrical issues are caused by a bad battery. It's not as obvious as it sounds so don't feel bad.

I don't think it has been replaced since new, a little old lady (truthfully) owned this RL. I will head out to buy a new battery tomorrow, will changing it result in a loss of all memorized functions?

Unless you know the battery is bad, I would have a parts store test it in case it is newer, but I'm guessing it's not. Your only hope to keep the settings is to have either both batteries on hand, or have another in between the two. Use jumper cables to connect the second battery before disconnecting the bad one, and keep them on until the other battery is in. That is how the dealer does it I believe. I suppose you would clip the jumpers onto the contactor and not the terminal to keep contact. It sounds tricky, but I have heard of people using this method. Otherwise, you will lose your settings, and the radio and nav will lock. Make sure you have your codes handy either way.

OK, thx again. I am almost 99.9% positive the battery was not replaced. After almost 6 years of use, it has probably had better days. The tricky jumper method is a good idea. I have the radio code but not the NAVI code if any is required? Does Nav need an access code too? Sheesh!

I'm pretty sure the radio has a 5 digit code and the nav has a four digit code.
