08 RL Backup Camera Clarity

I have a 2008 RL where the backup camera is basically useless. I have owned the car for 12 months. I have taken it in to the dealer(still under warranty) and they have said there is nothing wrong, that the cameras for the 2008 RL's did not work very well. I cannot believe that all 2008 RL backup camera perform as poorly as mine. Looking for anyone who has had this problem and found a fix or not.

Symptoms are, very faint display, I understand the sun glare issue. Broad daylight with no reflection and rear images are just barely visible. Nav system works pretty well so I am not suspecting the screen. Dealer said camera was functioning properly. Anyone have any ideas or similar issues. I plan on calling Acura but wanted to see if this was a common issue. Thanks for you input.

Try another dealer? ask to compare to a car on their lot? Pic of the screen?

Mine 08 camera is the same, really don't even use it for the faintness as you describe it. BUt i'm going to look closer because the other day, at start up, It seemed like the display was brighter and then went dim out of the corner of my eye...

I have a camera on my 05 and have experienced some of the same problems. Adjusting the brightness/contract/black level made significant improvements. Start with all settings near neutral (in the middle) and see how things look.

Since my car didn't come with a factory unit, there's an converter/adapter. This also has a brightness control.

Turn the joystick ring while the camera is on. This will adjust the brightness.

I love the OEM camera. It actually bugs me drivings cars that don't have them because they are so useful. The only time the OEM camera is not usefull is when you are backing up into direct sunlight. (You might have to take your sunglasses off too. )

I dont have any issues with mine, well, beside those moments when the lens is dirty. Also my wife likes it.

If you compare the camera to the 2010 MDX the 2008 looks really bad.
Not bright enough when it's dark

i just found this FEATURE also, and i does make a big difference along with adjusting the display settings.

I have been meaning to look st this, but i think if you adjust the fan speed, it will set your camera brightness also, wish it was a last left setting for each fucntion the ring controlled...

Have a 2012 RL...same issues. Dealer replaced camera, but didn't improve view. Also, the radio and Nav display characteristics are rather good. A friend's Ford Explorer camera-view puts mine to shame.

No pics. Just to confirm, everyone having issues has turned the joystick ring with the camera on, and the issue isn't resolved?
