06 RL RF Modulator install question.
Hi everyone,
Got a tricky one for you.
I am attempting to install a wired RF modulator into my RL so that I may have an auxiliary port to plug into. My model is a 06 RL with Navi and no Tech Package.
After removing the center stack and radio I discovered there is not a typical antenna connection like in the majority of cars.
I took a look at the service manual and there are only a few components to the am/fm system.
1. am/fm antenna
2. am/fm antenna amplifier
3. SubAntenna amplifier
These are located in the rear of the vehicle. They appear to be in the C-pillar.
4. am/fm sublead
This appears to be somewhere behind the glove box.
My question is (before i go tearing further into my car):
Where can I connect the in line module that would attach to the antenna line?
This is a link to the type of plug I am looking for.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

After installing the FM modulator I am seeing a static issue. When I change to the modulated station it is dead silent whining is great. However after a couple of seconds static gradually comes into the picture. It comes in gradually and is loud enough to make it nearly useless.
Are the amplifiers trying to amplify the signal and causing this static?
Slden, have you seen this on any of your diversified antenna Installs

I have tried it with and without the ground loop isolator and the results are the same. It also happens with no input as well as when i have a audio source attached.

I don't know what the latest offering is, but a few years ago (2007), I used a NeoAudio PODHONR2V2Y, which was probably a rebranded USA Spec PA15-HON2. It plugged into the head unit CD AUX and afforded you an iPod and a stereo input via 3.5mm jack. Both worked astoundingly well, very clear. Why mess around with a RF modulator? Go straight in. At that time, they had an aux in only unit, but my sense is that was sort of a pre-iPod unit. Either one of those should work a lot better than what you have.
The new follow-on USASpec PA15-ACUxl uses the satellite radio port to achieve a similar result and the earlier PA15-HON2, but allows the iPod to show text on the Nav screen at the expense of XM2 (you only get XM1, not XM1 and XM2 preset screens).
Point is either unit offers a second stereo input, which is what you want, and with a direct line into the head unit... The PA15-HON2 ought to be cheaper, and there may be the stereo in only unit still around for even less.
There is plenty of traffic about these units from years past...check it out.

Well that is incredibly more simple than what I’m doing.... I'm off to curse myself while pulling wires out of the car. Thanks for all the help.
I was under the impression the "iPod" interfaces didn't have the extra aux input. A guess a little extra research would have went a long way here.

The sound quality is great and it offers a regular AUX port as well as IPOD functionality.
