XMNavTraffic effective?

I haven't used mine yet, but does it work the way they advertised it?

Maybe I'll give it a shot this week and see how it turns out. Any tips?

Thanks,

Mine has never worked, and I have had the 4 point recall work done. The way the salesman explained it is that XM relies on Miami (DOT?) for the info, and if they're not providing it Nav Traffic can't display anything.

That could be a "crock", but I haven't pursued it because I only have a couple of routes to/from the office and they are always backed up anyway.

Here in New York the nav/traffic system is very effective, but I find the voice traffic info for the city via XM Radio at least as effective, since it states the cause of delays and their length. Supplemental info is also available through the nav system, but you need to center the cursor on the spot and zeroing in on that is a pain in the ass as well as potentially lethal while driving. I would listen to reasoned arguments that the nav/traffic is a borderline gimmick in its current state.

As indicated in another thread here, navtraffic is not ready for primetime in Seattle. Significant gaps where there is no information and frequent incorrect information such that you can't really rely on it. Great idea though so hope they get it together soon. I am not ready to pay a monthly fee yet so when the free year is up, I am out unless there is enough improvement that you can rely on the service rather than always questioning it.

In Philly it has worked 85% of the time. They don't cover all the roads though, only the major ones in and around Philly. I've also found XM 212 (Philly Traffic) just as effective and it end up working better for me since they talk about roads that aren't covered via the nav screen.

I thought TrafficPulse provided the data for both XM TrafficWeather channels and the NavTraffic download?

Either way NavTraffic wasn't enough to get me to keep the RL.

In the D.C. area I have no trouble with XMNavTraffic. It's saved me numerous hours of wasted time when accidents or other tie-ups have been identified by alerts, allowing me to reroute. It isn't the only reason I'm crazy about my RL. But it is one of the many reasons.

I will give it a shot. The navigation has saved me a lot of time as I have been able to find destinations that I know for sure I would not have been able to find otherwise.

I hope the XMNavTraffic will be the same.

Thanks for the comments.
