Question Where is the climate control Dual mode off/on switch?

I have carefully read the manual and this is the one item I can’t find. I have experimented and at times the two temperatures seem to be linked, but I can’t figure out how to link them.

My 04 TL has a “Dual” switch that allows me to manually link the passenger’s temperature setting to that of the driver. I can then change both temperature settings using just the driver’s manual control. I don’t think my 09 RL has this switch.

And I know that I can set both temperatures at the same time using the voice command. But if I set the temperature with the voice command, the driver's and passenger's manual controls still are not linked.

Thanks in advance.

The 2005 - 2008 RL does have a DUAL button on the center stack:

The 2009+ RL was modified to offer FAN SPEED and VENT selections for those who could not manage using the voice command or menus.

The DUAL button was lost.

I suspect if you use the HOT/COLD toggle switch on the Driver's side of the stack you will operate both driver & pax temp. If you toggle the Passenger side, you will have DUAL mode (setting the pax temp independent of the driver).

It is just a guess, but perhaps a 2009+ owner can verify.

I have found that the driver's Hot/Cold toggle switch SOMETIMES controls both driver and passenger's temp, and SOMETIMES it doesn't. I just can't figure out how to control whether it does or not.

But maybe the two Hot/Cold toggles are always independent of each other and it is just my imagination that they were ever linked. But if I had my choice I would select a "Dual" switch over a fan speed control.

I'll give you my Dual button (plus my 2005) and you give me your Fan button (plus your 2009)

I wonder if they are linked everytime you start the car, but get de-linked if passenger side control is changed.

Keep in mind that the Fob 'remembers' the last climate control setting for that Driver #. Each time you enter the car, it 'remembers' the settings when last driven. So if you change settings while driving....it will be different each time you drive the RL. Also, switching between Drivers (Fobs) will also affect the settings in the car.

Agree with what you say, but if D1 or D2 gets out of "linked" temp settings, how would they ever get it back to linked (without Dual Button) if it remembers all settings
We need an 09er to chime in

After experimenting more with the toggles, voice commands and memory buttons, I don't think the 2009-2010 temperature toggles can be linked together to control both with the drivers toggle.

I now believe that the only way to control both drivers and passengers temperature at one time is through the voice command.

In a 2006, I noticed that when my wife toggles passenger side lower the AC automatically goes into dual mode, and then the two toggles work independently. The Temperature Balance voice command is a new one for me, but I saw that in a recent thread.

Seems very odd. Did you test my theory about whether they are linked when you first start the car? I could understand that once the passenger adjusts theirs, no need to go back to linked mode until you get in the car again with different passenger or none at all.

In my wife's 2009 I found that the two temperature toggles are automatically linked if the “Defrost” mode is selected. I first thought it was when the Auto mode was not selected, but found that the toggles are linked only when the “Defrost” mode is active.

However it is just easier to use the voice control.
