my RL is at 140k right now, and i think the whining noise appeared at 65k. The flickering light appeared at 80k.

warranty covers almost everything, but not a flickering headlamp, and that will set you back $200. The cars are very reliable, but do have some nit picky things that need to be addressed. I think the major issue on these cars is the bearing in the drive shaft, which creates a high pitched noise. It has a TSB and acura fixes its under warranty (outside of warranty, it's a very expensive repair.)

As far as I am aware, there has never been anything documented on this board of a catastrophic failure for anything major and both the engine and tranny seem to be bulletproof.

The only recall on the car is for the power steering hose. I haven't had much done to my car, but am now having an issue with the AFS (under warranty!) I think the only things I've had corrected are the drive shaft bearing, loose side mirror replaced, left headlamp replaced under original warranty, seat heater bulb replaced and I changed the battery myself for piece of mind after 5 years. Car has done very well otherwise and yesterday on a 200 mile trip, I averaged 28 mpg with the AC on! I bought certified with 43k miles in May 08, now have 63k miles.

a few TSB issues from 30K to 50k. Smooth sailing since then (currently at 75k); I have been overall very happy with the car.

im picking up my 05 next week, and i've just checked the tsb board and my vin # didnt fall in any off the problems that had a vin #, besides the one that says ALL. the a/c was never broken and and the recall with the power steering had be fixed, the battery had be replace a couple of months ago. the car was a local trade in and only has 62km (not miles) those were the only service that got done to the car. my question is, since the car was fine and had no problems and is out of warranty now. will the dearler fix all of the tsb problems even tho they havent occurred yet? and will i get charged for the service since theres no warranty?

Kind of depends on the dealer and a lot of other things. Are you buying from an Acura dealer? Is it certified? If so, it should have another 12K miles warranty on it. Will they let you buy an extended warranty?

You should bank on the dealer NOT fixing TSB's, they are under no obligation to do so. All a TSB is, is a guide for the mechanic fixing your car (i.e., start here first) If the dealer does fix a TSB at no charge, consider yourself lucky. Personally, I would avoid any 05 RL (or any RL for that matter) that I could not get a warranty on, it's a great car, but there are some very common problems, the repairs are not cheap and they are not DIY. Since you are buying from a dealer, isn't it CPO, which gives you a 1-year warranty bumper to bumper?.

i think i will opt for the extanded warranty their offering me. 60km/3years or 80km/4years starting from the km that are on the car now.... just for some peace in mind. i think they wanted 18hun or something close to that for it, is that a good price or a lil hight for the 60/3years. thank you guys for your input, appreciate it!!!

I paid 900 USD at the time of purchase to extend my warranty by an additional 60k miles or 4 years.

Read the fine print of what you are getting. See if there is a deductible, and how that is calculated. The classic deductible story is $100 per broken part. You have 16 valves that need to be replaced. That is $100 per valve please.

Which RL are you picking up from what dealer? Is it on Autotrader.ca? I'm just curious as I wan't to get one and have been surfing the ol' trader site a few times.

I got my 05 RL in 08 with 45K miles on it. I now have 75K miles and haven't had any major issues - very happy with it. One minor issue I have experienced is an annoying rattle from the undercarriage. The dealer once charged me 200 to fix it saying the emergency brake line was rattling in its housing, but the problem came back a few months later and they wanted another couple hundred to fix it again. Recently the Check Emmissions warning came on, followed by the SHAWD light, and I don't know what that is all about.
