What HID Fog colour?
Hey all,
I am thinking of putting HID's into the fog lights of my car. What Kelvin did you go with? Which colour will match the headlights the best?

Is upgrading the foglights to HID a pretty hard task for our RL? Don't you have to remove the bumper?? If you do change them out, make sure you take pictures and do a DYI!

3000K and lower will help improve visibility in bad weather. 4300-5000K will match the OEM ones after a few hours of use (they have to colorshift, they turn bluer). 6000K is crystal white with a slight hint of blue.

Is this thread really about HID's or just changing the incandesant bulb in the fog lights? The color temperature of HID's is pre-determined by the very nature of the device. A Xenon arc has a defined color. Are you trying to see better at night or do you have an alternate motive?

I ended up buying DS2 bulbs at 6000K AND the foglight HID kit at 6000K from the same company at the same time to make sure they were exactly the same.
35 for the bulbs and 39 for the HID kit.
NOT TOO BAD! www.ddmtuning.com , the raptor kit. Going on a month with them now and zero issues.

I also purchased 3000K from DDMtunning no issues and very cheap. The only thing is yellow fogs are only yellow at certain angles the from the front they dont look yellow at all.

Yeah...for the yellow look, I would advise to go with Nokya yellows...cheap...and look VERY yellow AND you can leave them on if wired to parking lights...I have to turn mine off cause if you arm/disarm the car it's bad for the ballast to click on and off all the time.

I am very pleased with the Hoen xeononmatch bulbs I installed this spring. They are a close match to the headlamps.
per mfg:
Höen xenonmatch bulbs are optimized to match the color of OEM HID low beams or Höen xenonmatch plus and Titanium bulbs. The xenonmatch line is a true 4,000k bright white lamp that replaces the factory 'yellowish' bulbs as seen in the image above. All xenonmatch bulbs operates at vehicle manufacturer suggested wattages and are plug and play, easy to install in minutes.

do those HID's fit well as a direct replacement or do you have to do some modifications to the housing or anything else?
sorry for resurrecting an old thread but I couldn't see any pics around here showing any more detail about the install.
I've done it before on my R1 and had to modify the housing to get those to work but haven't had a chance to see here. I really dont want to have to modify it since the space is such a tight fit to replace a regular bulb as it is. unless you have access to a lift, which I dont.
Also any particular reason those HID's are vastly cheaper than anything else I've seen? I mean $30 for a pair of HID's is pretty cheap when most are selling for $100 min from what I've seen.

No pics of anyones install? where you mounted the extra box's and all?
Also, I'd also like to know why these sets are so cheap as opposed to most other HID's. $30 is crazy cheap imo.

Do you want fog lights or aesthetic lighting? Let's look at this from a scientific naivety.
Fog lights work best with with light of long wavelength with does not diffuse as easily in fog. Yellow orange and red are the color with the longest wave lengths. Orange and red are used for brake lights, so typically fog lights are yellow.
White is all colors combined, and the shortest wavelength, making them the most ineffective fog lights. But they draw attention because of the 'cool' factor and attention is what most people want. Some states will regulate proper DOT approved lighting to prevent show-boaters blinding traffic to look cool.
Personally, I like the aesthetics of the factory lights. The yellow glow contrasts the purple hues of the HIDs making the HIDs appear more prominent to me.

I still just dont get how these kits are so cheap compared to everyone else out there that makes and sells kits for well over $1-200.
Where did you guys mount your ballasts? was there any modification at all needed to install these?

To accomodate the real world of driving in fog you would need some fog lights such as Cibies and turn the head and "fogs" off on the RL.

One thing that selective yellow fog lights do well is to make YOU visible to others. If you're in heavy fog, note how the yellows shine through -- on others' cars.
