Forget it. $10k discount on an Acura is just insane and won't happen. The margins are razor thin as it is and they won't sell you one under invoice, which I imagine is around $45k+ or so.

why would the price drop?

as lex/infiniti add features... theyll increase their prices which are already above acura.

there will be no price drop.

The MOST I've ever seen an Acura discounted was $6,000 below MSRP for the '04 RL and thats because they wanted them out in time for the '05.

Acura could afford that only because that car had been in production since '96 with only relatively minor retooling required over the years.

eat your words....they car is already under fair price with all the features. You might not pay MSRP in a few months, the price will not drop.

As far as $40k RL, you will have to buy one used in about 1-2 years

There's always the pre-owned route as others have suggested. The average invoice price, according to Edmunds, is $43,536. You never know, you might see one in the low 40s in about 14-18 months.

There's always the TL A-Spec which is under $40K and packs a lot of punch.

Not necessarily...

The RL, GS430, and M45 were my 3 top choices. After lots of consideration, I figured I'd have to go with a GS430 (only the GS300 will have AWD, and with only 245hp ) or an M45 (not M30) to match the RL's performance. I can guarantee the GS will be close to $55k with all the options... if not more. And there's talk on the Lexus boards about dealers planning to mark them up above MSRP. The M45 will probably be close in price as well. Even an M30 could approach $50k because of the way Infiniti packages their Touring and Tech packages. If you doubt it, go to Infiniti's website and build one.

Taking that into consideration, the RL will continue to look like a screamin' deal.

In a few years I figure I'll be able to buy a used RL with like 50000km on it or something. Hey, used is the way to go when you dont have the dough!
At least then, if something was initally wrong with the car, it probably would have reared its head by then.

is the SH-AWD really that noticable in day to day driving......to be honest, i have never driven an all wheel frive car, so i have no clue the benifits other then for safety.

i just love the styling, the look and all the fun stuff the car comes with....

The whole point of SH-AWD is that it's transparent in operation. The only thing you'll notice is that the car doesn't seem to possess either under- or oversteer. It is designed to induce neutral handling, which makes driving a lot more pleasurable.

As far as safety, it improves traction in slippery conditions. And if things get out of hand, the VSA is still there to act as your safety net.

I was just looking through old threads, thoguht I would revive this. Funny how nobody would have thought the car would sell for $40k. Kind of dissapointing isn't it?

Not really. I bought a 2004 ESV Platinum brand new and paid $61,000 for it. I sold it with 5,500 miles on it for $49,000 just 8 months later and then purchased the RL.... but I have become accustomed to GM depreciation, I didn't know it would happen with Acura!!

Wow this *is* an interesting thread, although I don't think anyone could have guessed that the RL would be selling for 39-41k at this point. I still have a hard time believing it.

"I don't think anyone could have guessed that the RL would be selling for 39-41k at this point. "

Ummmm, where exactly are they selling for this amount, other than perhaps a few CA locations that may have been posted? Maybe recall somebody saying TX or another few locations, but I don't think this price level is widespread in all parts of the country is it?

Also, are these very lowest prices for leasing purposes as part of an Acura leasing program or are they actual purchase prices?

I don't think it's widespread - I'm actually the wrong person to ask about U.S pricing, being in Canada and all. I've seen a few people mention prices of in or around 40k, though (give or take 2k). Either way it's an exceptional value, and I never would have predicted it.

Prices in the Denver area where I live seem to be just north of $42K. I realize the best pricing is in the CA market, which is where I just bought my Carbon Grey/Taupe for $40,300. Cost me $250 to have it put on a truck and shipped to Las Vegas, where I picked it up while in town on a business trip. So $250 to put on a truck and $150 in gas to get back plus depreciation for 700 miles. Still think I came out ahead plus got a great drive to break in and learn about the car. (didn't use the cruise the entire trip, rather varied RPMs as much as possible..took different roads, not just 75MPH interstate)

Bottom line, if you really want an RL, talk to a CA dealer and price out having it put on a truck to your location. May or may not come out ahead, but worth investigating if you're serious about buying.
