1. I currently own a 2006 RL CPO with Extended and wanted to know if i would void the Warranty in any way by using the K&N air filter instead of the OEM.

2. Will the K & N do anything different from the OEM?

3 Is there any truth to : I have heard against using the K&N is that some people are afraid that the oil from the filter will contaminate the mass air sensor.

It really depends on what you are looking for. If it is a large change in hp, don't bother. Some say it allows better air flow, but the stock filter allows the maximum air flow that the engine can breath with the stock air box. You can clean it and re-use it which will save you after your third or fourth OEM replaement, but will you still have the car in 100,000 miles?

Some just like the sound better...

The only way Acura can void the warranty from it, is if they can prove the filter was the cause of the failure...not likely.

I had an AEM CAI w/ K&N filter on my CL and I noticed gains, but I'm sure most of that was from the cold air. However, I never had issues with oil affecting the MAP. Just don't go crazy with it.

 

No, your warranty will NOT be void with a K&N Filter. From their site, "They prefer you buy OE parts and not modify your car or truck and have even been known to void their own manufacturer’s warranty due to vehicle modification. That sounds un-American to us, which is why K&N and the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (more information here) protect consumers from such denied warranty claims. When you buy an OE replacement K&N High-Flow Air Filter or High-Flow Air Intake System you can be confident your vehicle’s warranty will remain in effect."

 

If I recall correctly, the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act states that if a product meets and/or exceeds the OEM requirements, it cannot void the warranty. I believe FRAM was the company that intially fought (and won) to have non-OEM replacement parts used under warranty conditions.

This is one of the first items I put in my RL. For one reason it flows more air, secondly I didn't want to be bothered having to go to a dealer or have a dealer send me one that is a long ways away. I can clean and reoil the filter as needed. Its thinner and lighter, but the oil is what traps the dirt. What did I notice? Quicker throttle response. Improvement in gas mileage...hard to tell.

 

I raced for a living for many years. You don't see any increase in power just by changing to a KN filter and you will get more dirt in your engine. It isn't like you will cut 3 seconds off your lap with it. Get a good quality air filter with lots of pleats and change it every time you change the oil. The KN will actually plug up over time even though you wash it. You will wash away the big stuff but not the little stuff stuck between pores.
