Voice Command - "que"

Maybe I'm just used to the TL where you push the voice command button and hear a beep but my RL doesn't do that. Should I expect it?

IOW - do the rest of you push the button for voice command, hear a beep, then speak "for the nice lady"?

Without the beep, I seem to sometimes miss the chance and have to start over again. Makes it less useful than it could be.

And, I guess, on a similar note, when you go in to Audio, do you hear the announcement EVERY time?

I'm beginning to think my "nice lady" takes a lot of vacations.

Thanks, sure what I *thought*.

I'm guessing "no beep" may be related to the other thing I'm noticing of no consistant announcements when I go other places in the nav unit (most notably into audio and about half the time I get the announcement of what you're listening to).

Goes on the list for my dealer to look at first time it goes back.

Thanks for the (quick) responses!

I'm not near my car right now, but isn't there a way to turn that function on and off?

To get started, I get the beep...

I think what you're referring to is the amount of NAVI prompts you get. I haven't moved mine from the middle setting but it would make sense that if you move it to the lower (minimal prompts) setting, you might affect the beep. Worth trying anyway. It's in the setup area.

Don't REMEMBER changing the prompt settings, but certainly a good suggestion. Will hunt that up and take a look. Thanks!

Have you tried adjusting the volume within each function (voice command, handsfree link, navigation)? Touch the button then turn up the volume via the steering wheel control or by using the knob on the radio system. Each function has its own volume setting.

I never heard the beeps either... I went to the setup area and changed the prompts to the max setting, and now I have beeps!

Probably based on what remote (1 or 2), or not, that is determining the prompt.

Looked at this this morning and I am NOT on max setting (forget the way they describe it, but it's on medium <g>).

Since someone mentioned max setting, I will try it and see if it beeps for me.

As for volume on each section, think that's ok because I can hear HER talking, just no beep. The other thing that leads me to believe there is something amiss - I can go between Audio and the map and sometimes when I go in the audio is announced and other times it is not. Seems to me it should be one way or another. Tried to find rhyme or reason but so far, no go on that front.

there's also a setting for voice feedback prompt (on/off). I thought it only effects the voice command feedback for Navi, Air, etc., not the "beep" in HFL - but I'm not sure.
My settings are Voice Feedback ON. and the Guidance Setting at MIN
With these, I get a beep for the HFL (and a "beep, beep" if it does not recognize)

I noticed about the on/off voice confirmation on mine also. I narrowed it down to if the vehicle is stopped, there is no voice confirmation say if you go from XM1 to XM2. But if the vehicle is moving, there would be a voice confirmation when you make that change. It's probably so you can keep your eyes on the road while the car is moving and not have to look down when you make a change.

I always get a beep. All settings for navi are on factory default but I don't think that should affect the beep for the voice command system.

Found the "Guidance" setting the other night. And found in the manual that the "auto" setting (what I'm on) is supposed to operate as it does - no voice announcement while sitting still, but announces when moving. Makes sense and I think I may remember reading it before, but sure forgot about it! <g>

At the same time, I was <ahem> "researching" the voice recognition button for entering commands and think it may well be a marginal button. Found that if I pushed it down rather slowly, it would beep for a few times, but if I hit it quickly there is generally no beep prompt.

In watch it mode for now seeing if I can get a good feel for how it really acts (to better explain to the dealer how to duplicate).

Thanks to all that have replied!
