Two questions regarding Radar Detectors
Two questions regarding Radar Detectors
- Where do folks here get them from? (e.g. radioshack, e-bay, bestbuy etc)
- If you guys would be kind enough to share pictures of your radar installation (e.g. how high are the units mounted, does the dangling power chord affect front view etc)
P.S.
#1 i live in GA where detectors are legal
#2 i have seen a mention of Escort 8500 X-50 as preferred radar of choice here in the forums.
1-You can buy an escort direct from their website.
2Anywhere on the windshield is fine, the higher the better, but, due to the hanging wire most people put it at the bottom of the widshield. If you buy a cordless passport put it high, be prepared to use rechargeable batteries since it goes through a few rather quickly.

I've bought two 8500's off eBay, brand-new in sealed boxes. You just have to be careful, as always.
I velcro mine to the far left side of the dashboard top, sorta snuggled under/behind my inspection and license stickers. Works beautifully, and no dangling cords.

Now I am going to assume the RL has the same rearview mirror as the TL since I dont think they would change that from car to car. This is some info about wiring it into your mirror I hope you find it useful.

If you decide to go with the escorts detector get with the X50 Blue.. Looks nice with the blue LED's... Also you could get the smart cord from escorts and run the wire under the headliner and the down the side pillar to the fuses below the drivers side. This will allow you to mount the detector next to the rear view mirror.I used the add a circuit fuse from Walmart that allows you to connect the detector to an exisiting fuse in the fuse box with an addition fuse for the detector.
