Trunk won't stay open
Trunk won't stay open
The wife was opening the trunk and she said she heard "something break"...now it won't stay open. I have a service manual and no warranty, so I will be fixing this myself
Anyone seen this or am I pioneering this one..

There is a gas cylinder, I think, that helps hold the trunk up. Maybe something let go there.
See the install instructions for the decklid spoiler

There should be two in the set. I received two of them when I bought my Spoiler. I think the ones in the set with the spoiler, are beefier than the stock ones (to support the extra weight of the spoiler on the trunk).
I didn't install mine when I installed the spoiler, because it didn't seem to need new ones, but they are nice to have in case the stock ones give out eventually.
I dont believe they are expensive or hard to install based on instructions that came with the ones I received.

Update for future reference.
I pulled the trunk liner back over the weekend and found the trunk strut hanging from one end. Turns out the strut was not broken. The strut connects to the trunk with a ball and cup type joint.(like a human shoulder/hip joint). The ball had popped out so I popped it back in. It felt pretty secure, but I realize this is probably going to happen again. I asked the wife to be more gentle with it...lol

Thanks for posting. My trunk gave out too. I've been looking everywhere for replacement lift-supports, but it looks like I should check my joints as well before purchasing anything. I also have a spoiler. Hopefully this post will save me lots of time and $s..
