I have a 2005 RL, very low mileage about 28K but almost all LA city driving. The dealer tried to get me to do a transmission fluid change, do I really need it?

Its the service managers job to sell you service.

 

Personally for me, I change my transmission fluid as often as I can. For the reason, I like to keep the fluid red and fresh. But I follow the MID for others.

How much are they charging you? What color if your fluid?

 

I haven't actually looked at the color. The MID didn't tell me to do it, just the service guy, yes I know, I know!

 

Change it @ 30K, then every 15 after that to keep it fresh.

 

Exactly my technique for the ATF (only). 30K changes for the other three compartments of the drive train. I change the ATF at 15K to avoid the need for the 3x3 flush.

BTW I really don't trust the computers for maintenance....too old school I guess.

 

you guys are wasting a lot of fluid. IMO... OP you have all the advice you need here.

 

Don't forget to have 'em change transfer case w/ tranny fluid
