Trading 05 RL for 06 RL

Would anyone consider doing this? I would if the 06 was free of the bugs affecting the 05 and I was having all the additional features in the 06.

What are the additional features of the 06 that make it so desireable over the 05?

The tech package, rear view camera and ipod connector.

I wouldn't - the car has depreciated FAR too much for me to buy another RL right now.

I know what you mean, and that very thought has crossed my mind.

I don't think my dealer received my first request for the brochure 2 or 3 weeks ago, so will call again.

I'm basically happy with the '05 car and purchased it knowing about the glitches. I never doubted that Honda/Acura wouldn't take care of any problems under waranty. But I have yet to get the brake rattle and door handle issues resolved...both dealers I called professed to not know about those issues, and so I assume, they don't know how to fix them. So far, the three TSB's applied a week ago are still working.

I'd opt for the technology package and camera.

However if Acura hasn't redesignd the sunroof apparatus so that it can be opened and enjoyed while the car is moving or if the radio continues to not identify DVDAudio titles and tracks (my '05 radio displays that information for SACD disks, but of course, will not play SACD in surround), then those would be a couple of reasons not to trade. The radio issue is of course, minor, but has been a disappointment because the '05 bochure featured titles/tracks. The sunroof issue is a large one for me...the more I drive the car, the more I miss not being to have it open.

I think the bluebook is around $37,000.

Which is a lot for a Honda/Acura. I didn't pay sticker price, but what about those people who paid $50k for their car. I may have paid $45k but when you add tax, clear bra, it comes to roughly $49k. A $12k loss in 5 months is a little high for me.

Even without the high depreciation, I wouldn't trade - there arn't enough new features. If it had a rear view cam standard, cooled seats, little more power, maybe then I would.

I definitely see your point. For myself, I might be willing to take a leap into something else sometime during the first quarter of '06. I'm considering a couple of other options...one I've mentioned previously...keeping the '05 RL and springing for a Ridgeline as a 2nd vehicle. I'll just have to see how things go with the '05 RL between now and then. I'm so happy with the successful TSB applications, that I think once the brakes/door handle issues have been fixed, I'll not even consider trading out of the '05. In the way of sedans, I haven't seen anything in print that I would prefer to the RL, but have not driven any other offerings.

When I had a 2005 Acura RL loaner I had no problems having the sunroof open at any time. Are you saying your car won't open the sunroof while the car is in motion? I have never heard of this.

The loss is way too high IMO to trade it in after one year especially on the 2005 RL. Not worth it unless the Tech pkg. is really that important to you. I'd wait 3-yrs before selling/trading, that way, the loss wouldn't be that huge. (I think you know what I mean)

I think Bluemule is referring to the level of wind noise present when the sunroof is open, which I have also noticed. :-(

It opens fine, but the amount of wind noise and wind buffeting caused by that unit that pops up is awful, IMHO. YMMV. One weekend recently, I took a pleasure drive up the Natchez Trace to Tupelo seeking some dvdaudio, and had to close it...it just wore me out...going between 55 and 60, btw.

The car I'm used to driving is a '94 Honda Accord and there is practically no wind buffeting or egregious noise at all reasonable speeds.

As I've posted before, this is a pet peeve of mine. None of the cars I test drove prior to purchasing the RL were free of this problem...BMW, new Honda Accord, MDX, TL, RL. The MDX had the least wind instrusion/noise.

That unit with the holes that pops up purposely directs air into the cabin, and I've noticed that sticking that thing into the wind stream also changes the frequency of the noise...I'm wonder sometimes if the ANC had something to do with how it's designed...and no, I'm not certifiable...yet...<g>.

I know what you meant and agree. I do want all the safty features available minus the bugs, but at what price is the question.

Rear hit accident safety rating is marginal according to the IIHS.

I wonder if there is any way to put the Tech Package on a 2005?

im sure there is...there is always a way to do things....but i don't know so much about the RL...but i think the RL's come WITH the technology package....already installed like the navigation option for the TL and the TSX...but i would imagine that it would be a lot of work and that it would just be more worth it to trade in your current RL (if you have one) for one with the tech package

Probably an expensive proposition to retrofit it...

I would not even consider it possible to retro fit due to the tight intergration of the different systems. I would run away if a dealer told me it was possible.
