Torque Converter
Hi, welcome to the forum. Generally speaking, no; there are no common issues with RLs after 2007. With that in mind, Honda has never been known for robust transmissions.
Can you explain your symptoms a bit more for future members looking to diagnose an issue? How did the dealer determine it is your TC?

it probably does need a torque converter if it hesitates/shutters when it shifts or upon acceleration. also if you hear a noise or feel a vibration threw the entire car when its in a low gear and foot barley on the gas then that's your converter as well. if its still under the power train warranty then let them replace it and if turns out not to be the converter then the dealership will be debited the cost of a $1200 torque converter lol but other than the converters, motor mounts, and the occasional propeller shaft they are pretty solid cars
I want to say Acura had a TSB on the RL TC. But that was before 2009, and I can't imagine they didn't address the issue in the newer designs.
These symptoms sound hard to pin down unless they are just obvious. The pre-2009 RL has terrible throttle response which I would call a hesitation. It felt like a turbo was spooling up before it would really go. Also, any time you are in the bottom of a gear, you will feel some shudder. That's a symptom of too much load on the engine, and it happens with MTs too. I'm certainly not saying that the TCs replaced here didn't need it, but perfectly functional cars can do some uncomfortable things in unusual circumstances. Pile on top of that service writers' job to sell big repairs, and I would be a bit skeptical. In any case, if it's done under warranty, then no harm done as long as your trust in the car isn't shaken.
I remember some members said theirs was making a noise before replacement.

For posteritys sake the 2011 RL that I'm buying had the torque converter replaced at about 90,000 miles. No problems that I could feel at any gear currently, though its only been 21,000 more miles. Hope it easily makes it another 70,000 miles!!
