TL owner looking to buy RL
Hi, I have a 2000 TL with 151K miles that I just had in the shop for a few days and spent $1000 on. Oil change, tranny flush, electrical problems with alternator overcharging the battery, alternator replaced, headlight low-beam replaced, etc. Now three of the windows don't go up/down and the stereo code does not "take" after AAA replaced dead battery for free under warranty.
I need a new car as the car has been shaking intermittently in 3rd gear for over a year (the mechanic is worried about the tranny going soon as these 2000 TLs had bad trannys to begin with!).
I would like to purchase a newer TL or RL and found a couple decent deals on RLs. My mechanic recommended RLs as they tend to have older owners that don't drive them as hard as TL owners.
So I'm targeting a 2006/2007 RL now. I am going to test drive one tomorrow morning (private party) in Los Angeles area: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...r_id=271786428
What do you guys think about this model/year car and this one in particular? What's a good price OTD for a used private party 2006 RL with less than 36K miles?
Any recalls or other tranny (major) issues like my 2000 TL to be aware of? Read some on this forum regarding bad city fuel economy but sounds like hiway is pretty good. thx.

I had a 2000 TL and a 2004 TL and at the time thought they were great cars (which they were). I now have a 2007 RL with 114,000 trouble free miles and love the car. The new car bug hit the other day and test drove a 2007 Lexus LS460 which gets incredible reviews. It was very nice but I enjoyed getting back into my RL. I know you will love the RL. The reliability, the drive, the bluetooth, the best navagation that I have seen, XM, great sound system, safety and all the other techie stuff. Yes the gas mileage could be better but I get 20 combined and 28 highway.

That black on black looks nice. Looks as though the seller took good care of the vehicle. Price-wise, I don't think you will get a better deal than that, especially with the custom wheels and backup camera included. I would just check to see if the cutomer had the TSB's done, i.e. power steering hose replaced, etc.
If you do purchase the vehicle, that car needs the wood steering wheel and the wood shift knob for starters.
Good luck.

That car looks to be in great shape, with nice A-Spec chrome wheels. Not a bad price for the miles. I'd do it!

Done deal!
test drove today and negotiated for $24,500. I left a down payment and the seller agreed to a vehicle inspection. I'm very excited, that car is way nicer than a TL (especially my beatup 2000 TL). They said it had a couple small accidents so I'm not worried about any structural damage. Sale is contingent upon passing inspection. I think they're in a rush to close a deal on a year-end SUV for the kids, etc.
all service records (dealer only), new tires and 1 yr of XM included. Pretty happy!
